How we rated the Irons against Liverpool

Hugh hands out his marks

Fabianski: No chance with three quality goals – a couple of routine saves – an afternoon he would probably sooner sooner forget after recent outings 6

Coufal: As ever, did very little wrong and an awful lot right and his ball control is a joy to watch 7

Dawson: On a difficult day to pick a MOM for the Hammers I’ll go for the centre defender. Always putting his body on the line, made some important blocks and grabbed a goal 7+

Ogbonna: Steady but misread a couple of situations as the visitors stepped up their game 6

Cresswell: Not his afternoon at all. Caught out defensively here and there and very few crosses of any consequence 5

Bowen: Non-stop running but little he could offer offensively with Liverpool in charge by and large 6+

Rice: Really not his day. Booked for a late one, a cross-field pass straight into touch and second-best to the visitors’ midfield 5+

Soucek: More or less the same even down to the booking  – not the day our heartbeat really ticked 5+

Fornals: Worked hard and some nice touches here and there before being subbed 5+

Benrahma: He looks more and more the part – some really nice touches and tried his heart out 7

Antonio: Missed one decent chance on the turn, worked hard but like the rest of the team didn’t offer aenough 5+

Subs:

Yarmolenko 5, Noble 4, Fredericks4 Not really a game-changer in there. The game passed them by

  1. Generous marks I think. Not Mr Moyes’ greatest day. Paid them far too much respect. Lack of desire and puzzling substitutions. Let’s hope it’s a blip

  2. Thought you were very generous with your marks there. Not sure I would have given anyone more than five! A very lacklustre display all round. The best chance in years to beat the Scousers and we bottled it. Just showed the gulf in class, I’m sorry to say. Worst performance of the season since the first game.

  3. I thought Dawson was by far our best performer today. The rest were at best average. And Rice and Soucek just didn’t turn up, which meant we had no engine room. As a result, we were overran for long periods, and got what we deserved. The result was a fair reflection of the game.

  4. Agree that Benrahma did well despite negative reviews on other sites. Got into a some good positions but didn’t get the passes. Still fitting in, but he’s going to be a real asset.

  5. I think you were generous with Benrhama’s score. He tried hard but got in the way.
Frankly, we made no progress up either wing and I suspect they were told to be defensive.

  6. missed a trick with this game. agree that we payed them too much respect in the 1st half instead of taking the game too them when we had the perfect opportunity to hurt a destabilised team. we gave them 45 minutes to settle and feel comfortable before turning the screws. unfortunately, we gave them the screwdriver

  7. Good day sir.
Thanks again for the stats. Always appreciate it and your comments.
But the truth be told, our team was way below average … ie below 5.
Declan was bad, and slowly starting to lose his shine. Maybe the armband is too heavy. Fabianski should be monitored too, as he really can do better with our goals against recently. If he got off his line quicker, he could have messed up Mo’s receipt and goal. Allison did that brilliantly first half.

Bowen is also becoming worse and worse. His side and many back passes, and ridiculous short corners are really a pain to watch. The Noble/Declan side/back pass show has become too much too watch. Really.

Then of course what rating to you give the ref ??? … and manager Moyes? Liverpool must have shivered at our substitutions. Wow, thought the old Moyes was dead, but Sunday’s subs would have made sense if we were leading 4-0, with 2 mins to go … not trying to get 3.

Hope our team would be defrosted before the Aston Villa match. Please, please, please !!!!
