How we rated the Irons against Saints

Hughie hands out the marks

Fabianski: Quiet afternoon essentially despite being beaten by one that came back off the upright. 6

Coufal: Few defensive concerns and always attempted to drive forward  when he had the chance 7

Dawson: Did  a reasonable job at the back on and afternoon of few Saints chances 6

Ogbonna: Always composed 6

Looked quality when he arrived as a sub

Cresswell: Did little wrong but like the rest failed to make a serious impact 6

Rice: Controlled midfield – always available. An impressive display in a poor game 7.5

Soueck: Couple of headers over the top from corners and free kicks – neat and tidy alongside the skipper 7

Bowen: Ran himself into the ground – was tricky and clever and our chief goal threat 9

Fornals: Pretty average performance following recent displays 5

Benrahma: Started well and faded before being subbed 5

Antonio: Worked hard but could never get on his top game  and two yellows – one sadly at the death – will see him out of the Man United  game 6+

Subs:

Vlasic: Really aggressive and a big attacking force – Benny boy will have to watch out. 7

Yarmolenko: On late: No rating

  1. Bit stingy on the rating IMHO. Rice definitely saved a point and deserved team MotM for me, and Dawson saw a lot of action deserved better. Bene, very poor today, and generally they all looked a bit tired and leggy towards the end, particularly Antonio, which may account for the 2nd Yellow…..

  2. The whole team looked lethargic and leggy. The international fixtures have definitely taken their toll – some guys played 3 games during that break and clearly haven’t recovered from the exertion.

Vlasic shows a lot of class in his sub appearance. He looks like a great addition to the team.

Dawson was seriously off the pace and probably won’t keep his place for the next league game.
