How we rated the Irons against Villa

NiallMcDonald hands out the marks

Fabianski: Some excellent handling at set pieces before being beaten too easily by Grealish 5
Fredericks: Did ok for me. Got forward in the first-half and handled Grealish pretty well on a booking 6
Diop: Strong in the air, back to the player of last season 6
Ogbonna: Another professional display today 7
Johnson: Looked the part on the left side of defence – a real find at the end of the season 7
Rice: Several wild attempts to replicate his long-range screamer against Watford – not quite mastered it 6
Soucek: Only one outside-chance of a header on goal today 6
Fornals: Always on the move, always looking for a challenge to make and a team-mate to pass to 6
Bowen: Given a well-earned break being replaced at the interval 6
Noble: Much more effective in the advanced midfield role, less so dropping deeper after the break 5
Antonio: Signed off with another enthusiastic display. Failed to hit the target with his only chance for yet another goal 6

Subs
Yarmolenko: Allowed to cut in on his left-foot again and the deflection temporarily wiped the smile off Grealish’s face 6
Haller: Hard to judge as the team are so well-drilled to play with a centre-forward like Antonio 4
Lanzini: Very weak free-kick summed up his afternoon. Bereft of confidence 2
Anderson: On late and didn’t look bothered in the slightest  No rating

  1. Fredericks did OK what game was you watching 😳 😳 😳 he is league one level at best

  2. Fredericks OK!!!! You cannot be serious. Sorry Niall but I have to agree with Paul, thought he was probably the worst player on the pitch today.

  3. Fredericks was awful , Noble was awful and Fabianski is only 75% the keeper he was before his injury . Ogbonna was magnificent and the youngster was the best full back we have seen all season . . Rice was not at his best and Bowen was clearly not fit . Didn’t think Antonio was at his best and and Soucek had a no nonsense game in the middle . Fornals is becoming the workhorse of the team and is becoming an integral part of the set up . We desperately need a full back and a play maker and a forward who wants to play . We should bring Arnie back as he has the heart and ability to contribute goals .
