How we rated the Irons against Watford

CandH ratings man Niall McDonald hands out the marks and is impressed

Adrian: Several fine saves preserved the clean sheet 7
Cresswell: Some calm, assured defending and I think he can claim an assist as well? 7
Zabaleta: Relieved of his duties in midfield today. Kept up his challenge for ‘most bookings in the season’ 6
Ogbonna: One beautifully timed interception halting a Watford counter attack stood out 7
Collins: Reduced Deeney to huffing and puffing. Distribution upfield could have been a little better 7
Noble: Plenty round me felt the skipper was off the pace, for once I disagreed. Held position without flying into tackles 6
Kouyate: Combative. Some driving runs 7
Joao Mario: Very bright start and signs of a front four of great potential. Moyes and co will get him up to the pace of the Premier League 6.5
Antonio: Typical Michail – sloppy at times, plenty of shoulder-slumping and a brilliant driving run and cross for the opener 7
Arnautovic: Has a real presence about him. How vital could that scrappy goal prove? 7.5
Hernandez: One of his best games up front for me. Deft finish and appreciated some support in the first half 7

Subs
Byram: Fresh legs on the right 5
Rice: Added numbers in the middle for the last throes 5
Hugill: Made it a triumvirate of young subs with a couple of minutes to go. Threw himself after some long clearances with great enthusiasm 5

  1. It’s all about players and Arnie and Antonio are two of the best. Hopefully next season we will have a better squad so we don’t lose or draw whenever our best players are injured.
Next back is Lanzini, with 2 weeks before the next game.

  2. Don’t see why Zabaleta should be scored less than his defensive team mates. He defended well and went up and down the right flank with great energy. Who says his legs are gone?

  3. Personally thought Mario was well off the pace and bottled several challenges

  4. Noble was good today..we would soon miss him if not playing. You must have some muppets sat round you Niall..

  5. People around you saying noble off the pace but for once you disagree? You never criticise noble gets good marks every week even when he is terrible, you should watch the full game again an just watch him, gets bypassed so much by not having the pace in and around the ball when players run past him, sorry but his best position is just ahead of 2 defensive mf an that is why we miss obiang so much, he does all the dirty work breaking things up so much but gets slagged off all the time coz he doesn’t do anything fancy at all normally. But I agree with the points today and thought the whole team played a more attacking game an can’t wait for Manu to be back as well. The one thing that puts me off Moyes a little is he doesn’t seem to like putting subs on with 30 or 20 mins left, I was panicking a bit yesterday as Collins cressy an Arnie looked to have picked up injuries an were hobbling an tired an team under pressure but wouldn’t freshen it up with he subs, seems like that same problem in most games with moyes

  6. noble had another good game but man of the match for me apart from arnie was zabaletta.
