How we rated the Irons at Anderlecht

Hughie hands out his marks

Areola: A sensational near world class save kept the Hammers on track for their win and likely hope of winning the group. Quiet night beyond that but what a save 9

Coufal: Caught dead legged at times and not at his best for much of the game 5

Dawson: The man is as steady and reliable as it gets. Tie him down to a new deal Moyes 8

Ogbonna: Took a yellow on his night as captain and still looks rusty 6

Johnson: Nothing spectacular but competent on return from injury 7

Emerson: Not in the game to any great extent. No real impact 5

Downes: This guy has a serious eye for a pass and can spread it about. Won’t let anyone down when called on by the looks of it 8

Lanzini: Again, showed he is NOT the player of old, dispossessed and caught out but the odd decent ball here and there 5

Benrahma: Missed an open goal from close in and saw loads of the ball before losing it or wasting it. He is soooo frustrating 2

Bowen: Some truly magical moments and set up the terrible Benrahma miss among one or two others 9

Antonio: Worked hard and took some knocking about before making way for Scamacca 6

Subs:

Rice : Played his part in the goal and looked the part again 7

Paqueta: Again, we saw glimpses of what the player will become but we want more…much more. It will come. Also involved in the goal build up 6

Scamacca: Some fab movement and a fine goal finish. He looks set to become a decent Hammers striker signing at long long last 8

Fornals: On late…no rating

  1. The way Paqueta brought that ball down was flashy but brilliant, the pass for Scamacca’s goal shows he can do it – he looks class, let’s hope Moyes works out how to get the best out of him! 🤔
