How we rated the Irons at Anfield

Hughie hands out his marks

Fabianski: Graeme Souness thinks he should have done better for the goal and might be right but he was excellent beyond that except that he really really needs to get rid of the ball quicker 7

Johnson: Limitations were shown now again defensively – adequate but little more than that 5

Dawson: Some outstanding blocking and one particular intervention on Salah stopped a near certain goal 8

Zouma: What you see is what you get – just a very fine central defender 7+

Cresswell: Very good performance  front and back for the Cockney scouser returning to his own turf and an outstanding clearance off the line. 7

Lanzini: Heart bled for him and US with that awful miss because before and after he had been the outstanding defensive midfielder. I’m gonna forgive him. Some won’t 7+

Soucek: Brave decision to play and couldn’t join the targets for corners and free kicks given the facial injury but Lanzini was the better of the two and the play passed him by at times. Supplied the ball in for Lanzini’s missed chance 4

Vlasic: Barely noticed him again until he was taken off. Be nice to find out what it is he has to offer 3

Fornals: So unlucky with a chip that wasn’t quite strong enough to take it into the net and always at the heart of the action. I enjoy the way he plays with a smile on his face in all circumstances 8+

Bowen: Looked to have been hurt rather too badly for comfort and taken off unable to bear any weight. Before that a bit ordinary 5

Antonio: Some strong running but technically and his touch still leave much to be desired 6

Subs

Noble: Naturally looked ring rusty after so long out but there was some good passing in there along with some poor stuff 5

Benrahma: Another horrible performance – perhaps his worst. Goodness knows how many touches he had and not one of them counted. Let’s hope we can get a fee in the summer. Just not good enough 0

Chesters: The academy midfielder came on in injury time No rating

  1. Thought Lanzini was great today such a pity he blew the chance. Really pleased how we worked and attacked them, and Mikey played well up top as did Kurt and Craig at the back. With you on Vlasic – strange one. Would have loved Chesters on earlier instead of Benrahma but that is hindsight! Well done lads.

    • Good evening Hugh.
Good ratings again sir. Yes, we watched the same match, and come away dissapointed and extremely worried.
Have been noticing that a huge chunk of the the team has become never-minded and extremely wasteful without accountability and apology.
And with no good subs to replace them … on they go.
      – Lucasz was seriously to blame for the goal. No outstretched arms at all? Wow.
      – Your ratings and comments about our defenders … spot on.
      – And yes, Lanzini deserves our kind Pat on the back for a good performance and biggest goal miss of the match
      – Bowen and Soucek have dropped in their own standards as well as become extremely average.
      – Antonio, Soucek, Fornals and Bowen’s weak attempts at goal is becoming unbearable and inexcusable.
      – Moyes 2x great signings … wasted 50mil pounds on Vlasic and Benny. And their ratings are well deserved.
Why Moyes dont admit His mess, and get the und23’s into the team. Even an und 18 player will do better. Gosh.
      – We can only pray and wish the team and our 2 regulars Declan and Bowen well.
      – And hope our team could spark and give us happy days again. Coyi. God bless West Ham.

  2. It was ironic that our 2 best players missed our two big chances. I thought Lanzini and Fornals were simply amazing. So many of us have been calling for Manu to play in with Rice. He proved it today we are a better team with him and rice with fornals in the 10 role. Very proud of the performance but I really question Moyes and his decision to bring on noble. We had just got complete control of midfield, just a stupid eedless decision. He was like an old nan no legs and Liverpool began to run throughnour midfield.
