How we rated the Irons at Liverpool

Hugh hands out his marks

Fabianski: Two very uncharacteristic fumbles in the first half which could have been very costly and I do wish he would release the ball quicker to set up attacks. Couple of saves but not quite as reassured as we know he can be 6

Couval: What a fabulous buy this guy is turning put to be. Defended superbly and always ready to get forward and try setting things up 7+

Balbuena: In pretty good form recently – did well again. Diop will have a tough time getting his place back if this goes on 7

Ogbonna: As reliable as ever – one odd moment when caught out but the guy is heroic for us at the heart of the defence 7

Cresswell: No complaints with the scouser today :-), back and front he did very well 7

Masuaku: It would be far too easy to make him a hate figure for the penalty and some are still not sure it should have been given, but he he did really well going forward over the rest of the 90 and caused the defence concern 7

Rice: As competitive as ever but gave away a dangerous free kick and there was the occasional misplaced pass. Perhaps I’m being a tad over critical 7

Soucek: The bloke never puts a foot wrong. Top performance as ever 8

Fornals: Fine goal and love the guy’s energy and enthusiasm. Well done young man 7+

Bowen: Always running and taking up good positions – the guy spelt danger  7

Haller: We’ve seen enough of Haller to know  he’s never a £45 million player. How much does that make Antonio worth. Offered very very little but thankfully there are other players who  are and can score. 3

Subs:

Yarmolenko: Worked hard and started to make things happen 6

Lanzini and Benrahma were late arrivals on 87th minute.

  1. Haller.Offers nothing and i do not care what people say about him being a totally different type of player to Antonio. After watching and playing football for decades i know a dead duck when i see one.Its the lack of effort from any player that drives fans crazy and he is so lethargic he looks like he is in a coma.Frankfurt could not believe their luck getting that sort of money for him.

  2. To be quite honest, I think the Hammers looked tired.. Don’t understand why as we had a week to prepare. Ogbonna’s distribution was very poor at time, Masuaka should be vilified as it was a “brain dead” tackle in the box.. Haller cannot play on his own up front.. Fornals decision not to pass to Bowen with an open goal was a “shocking” Thought the Hammers were not at their best.. So many times we have not been able to hold onto a draw. Not a good trait to have… Antonio is a major problem as he is injury prone 😔

  3. Moyes game management is so poor, should of got points at Arsenal and Liverpool but he’s reactive instead of proactive subs are costing us dearly.
This evening shows why he has never won at Liverpool, will always get outmanaged by the top managers, Klopp made the subs and won the game same as Arteta at Arsenal.
So much right with the formation and the defensive work, maybe he is a defensive coach but certainly not a manager, a good manager will manage throughout the game , we have a very strong bench.
Haller doesn’t look interested and isn’t affective as a lone striker, should of been changed at Half time.

  4. I think 3 for Haller is being generous
