How we rated the Irons at Manchester City

Hughie hands out his marks

Fabianski: Exposed for both goals but made some marvellous at feet saves – we need him next season 8

Johnson: Another top game which included one magnificent off the line clearance. Interesting that he remained at right back when Coufal came on for the injured Cresswell given his left sided abilities. He’s very much the No 1 in the role 8

Dawson: Tough afternoon but did okay alongside Zouma. Some important interventions 7

Zouma: Impressive particularly early on when he was always the last defender 7+

Cresswell: Crashed into an upright making a fine clearance and went off injured. Forced to defend for the majority of the game and was impressive 8

Rice: Best player on the pitch in the second half but certainly had some probs in the first 8

Soucek: Quietly effective in a midfield mainly dominated by City – looks to be on his way back 7

Masuaku: Some will want to blame him for first goal but that would be harsh. One or two reasonable runs but no end product 5

Fornals: Isolated for much of the game as City dominated but plenty of effort when the ball broke to him 6

Benrahma: Maybe it’s the barnet that makes it noticeable but spent a lot of time running around like a lost soul. You always hope and expect but didn’t happen today

Antonio: Responsible for losing the ball to help set up City’s second goal but no service to speak of up front 5

Subs:

Coufal (for Cresswell) Did ok out of position without ever being under intense pressure 6

Lanzini: Fabulous last second goal – maybe it would have been a different game had he started – always busy and effective 7

Bowen: Never had a real involvement arriving late 5

  1. I have no idea what game you were looking at but to give Johnson and Dawson those ratings is a bit OTT. Johnson has done well but for me he is not ready to be starting games ahead of Coufal, Coufal gives us so much more, really strange decision if I am honest Dawson is not at the races and Diop needs to start now and if that does not work then bring in a CB or give young Baptiste a run but no more Dawson please. Lanzini is another player who has to come in for the Brighton game. Soucek needs a break and I would play Fornals as an 8 alongside Rice with Lanzini just in front. A decent first half but secodn half we were poor and we need to bring in a forward and start trusting Vlasic.

    • The game I was watching was named in the headline and the ratings were my personal view. It’s all sop subjective John and I disagree with all you have said as well apart rom Diop. All opinions welcome LOL. Out of interest how much have u seen of Baptiste?

    • I was watching West Ham v City and my ratings are there to be disagreed with just as I disagree with all of yours bar Diop. How much have u seen of Baptiste out of interest John

      • Fair point, it is a great forum in terms of allowing us to give opinions and all opinions are good to get. I have not seen Baptiste except in a few u23 games but I have seen a lot of Dawson even though he has done alot better than I expected he is not the solution at CB, we need to revert to a back 4, Zouma has to be on the right so it needs to Diop on the left, the dogs on the streets know that. I do liek Johnson but compared to Coufal not at the same level just yet.

  2. Well DM has earned our unquestioning support, but a few of us called for Lanzini to start and a back five for width but not Arthur, who couldn’t defend in the under 13’s. I really hope he plays Lanzini, Diop and rests Tomas with two games coming this week. Also it seems that Benny can only be effective in an attacking team, so noted.
