How we rated the Irons at Old Trafford

Hughie hands out the marks

Areola: Beyond one very strange punched clearance early when perhaps he needed a shout he looked confident and comfortable – decent performance that! 7

Fredericks: Set up the goal with a great assist and then was off injured after 15 – what an unlucky boy 7 for that assist alone

Diop: Just as good as he had been in Croatia – heroic 8

Dawson: I had him down as mom long before it became official. Top man at the back 9

Johnson: Kept everything nice and simple and looks a player these days 7+

Kral: Will need time. Did a decent job alongside Noble 6

Noble: I worry every time he goes near any opposition player – missed a decent chance at the end and easy to see why he isn’t a regular these days 6

Masuaku: Ring rusty. Plenty of decent running but little impact – 6

Yarmolenko: Better than usual but missed a terrific chance at the end when hitting the post 6+

Lanzini: Well taken goal and always involved before being subbed 7+

Bowen: Another very good game – rarely beaten and always threatening.  Got in behind and really looked good 8

Subs

Fornals: Missed a chance near the end but some neat work here and there 6

Coufal: Usual outstanding performance front and back 8

Vlasic: Barely noticed him to be honest 5

  1. Diop, Dawson and Bowen were outstanding, I would love to see a back 3 of Zouma, Diop and Ogbonna to see how they would do.
