How we rated the Irons at Palace

Hugh hands out the marks

Fabianski: More high marks for the keeper after several top saves and  all round performance 8

Fredericks: Handed the hugely difficult job of coping with Zaha whilst still beinga bit ring rusty. Did alright but he and a couple of the others failed to keep out that equaliser 6

Diop: Steady Eddie performance on a day when he came under a load of pressure 7

Ogbonna: Caught out of positions when danger emerged a couple of times as Palace got in behind him 5

Cresswell: Did really well at both ends and is looking the player we have always believed him to be 7

Noble: Gained some breathing spaces with those falls of his but became overwhelmed in second half 6

Rice: Spot on throughout – hard to fault him at all 8

Snodgrass: The usual energy but not a lot of end product 6

Anderson: Tremendous first half but like so many of the front runners disappeared in the second. 7

Antonio: Earned the spot kick by going in where it was always gonna hurt and ran his heart out until subbed 7

Chicharito: Just okay – missed a couple of chances but at least starts to LOOK more threatening 5

SUBS

Zabaleta: Appeared late on No rating

Obiang: On to shore up the midfield – the usual

Aranutovic: Can’t be blamed for an anonymous 25 minutes as there was so little coming out of midfield but nothing of note from him apart from the hard running we are used to 3

  1. Fredericks a 6 Hugh, I think you were looking at the wrong game. I hope its the last time he puts on the West Ham jersey. People think he is a great player because of his pace. He has pace but he cant defend, cant see danger quick enough, technically poor. In my book he is a terrible signing and if Zaba leaves in the summer we need to sign a top RB.

  2. I thought that Fredericks did OK – Zaha is a tricky customer (who should not have been playing – we will see now whether his appeal is successful or whether he misses a cup game instead)

He made a number of good clearances following crosses from the other wing

Anyway we will never all agree on ratings and of course we do bring our preconceptions on certain players johnham1

  3. Agree Zahama, Fredricks was over-matched against Zaha and Arnholt, without whom, the Eagles would be in relegation zone, didn’t get enough support from the midfield.

Think Hugh is about right on his ratings, maybe generous with Rice and stingy with Noble..

  4. I’m sorry hugh but I feel like your being kind, giving rice an 8, I didn’t see him any better overall than noble, yet you have said noble was overwhelmed second half. Plus he did score our goal, albeit a pen, you still have to put it away. I do agree about the tired legs with the whole team, the team got weary and I think Monday’s game had a bearing on that. That’s just my view.
