How we rated the Irons at the Bridge

Hugh hands out his marks

Martin: Thank God for the son of Alvin – confident debut which spread through the team  7

Fredericks: Some really great defending at times – excellent performance 7

Men of the match for me

Balbuena: Some really dodgy moments in the first 45 but played his part in the second 6

Ogbonna: Almost an mom performance – some great blocks, tackles – all a defender should be 8.5

Cresswell: Defended so well and scored a magnificent goal – top display 8.5

Rice: Broke stuff up, passed his way out of trouble, burst forward on two or three fabulous runs – brilliant stuff 9.5

Noble: At the heart of everything and always harrying Chelsea’s midfield and breaking stuff down 7.5

Anderson: Subbed as usual around 70th minute. Very little trickery, kept it simple throughout and put in a fair shift 6.5

Snodgrass: What you see is what you get from Snoddy. High energy as usual and always trying to set stuff up 7.5

Fornals: No creative stuff but more than justified his inclusion with his best performance so far. Worked hard. 6.5

Antonio: Outstanding in the one-up role – always on the move, causing problems and unlucky not to clinch it with his goal ruled out by VAR 9.5

Subs:

Yarmolenko: Worked hard in his limited time on the pitch 6

Haller: A subdued performance after the Antonio show 5

Masuaku: Late arrival. Did fine but had little chance to show what he’s about 5

  1. The most surprise of all for me was Fornals- at last seeming to get a grip on Premiership football

  2. I think you’ve been a bit generous on Anderson’s score. Maybe it’s because I always expect him to do more, but I was disappointed with him. Thought he could have done more to close down and win the ball back. As we know, he can be amazing, but we’ve not seen much magic for a while. I just wish someone would give him half a pint of whatever it is Snoddy drinks.

  3. Typical Westham, expect the unexpected.Literally thought pre match the best thing about today was going to be the boat trip.Well done boys, worth your weight in gold today. Top notch defending. We actually had a keeper today! No offence Roberto, but Martin’s following in his old man’s footsteps! Well done lad!

  4. Rice was absolute different class. Best player on the pitch by a mile for me.

  5. I had my faith in the hammers all the time, shame some other people didn’t.
