How we rated the Irons at United

Fabianski: The usual solid performance with a couple  of top stops thrown in. Situation normal for the obvious Hammer of the year 7

Zaba: Did really well at both ends of the pitch – admirable stuff from the old boy 7

Ogbonna: Solid as a rock with some fine interventions and blocks. 7

Balbuena: Finding his way back to form and a threat at set pieces in the opposition box 7

Masuaku: Very threatening going forward and did nothing wrong defensively at all. Good to see 8

Rice: Running out of things to say…great tacking, fine distribution. Another top game

Noble: A bits and pieces display, over hitting a ball to the far post as the attackers queued up at near post. Generally nothing more than average 5

Snodgrass: Piled in some fine corners and worked his guts out for the cause 7

Lanzini: Fabulous cross for the goal and beginning to make a real impact when he appeared to pick up a groin injury 6

Anderson: Took his goal well and general contribution far more what we would expect 8

Chicharito: Given the amount of activitty around the United we might have expected more but it didn’t happen 4

Subs:

Diangana: Flitted around on the periphery of things 4

Antonio: Could so easily have won it with a couple of efforts saved by De Gea and the woodwork 7

Fredericks: Woefully out of position when forced to bring down Martial for the match wining penalty. Generally off the pace 3

  1. Good scores Hugh. Fredericks is an absolute joke, let the whole team down today by making that challenge. A very average player playing in the wrong league. We need to sign Zaba back up or bring in a top rb. I hope we have learned our lessons from buying players from championship teams. Milosevic is another example of a very very average player. More a championship player. Hopefully Pelle has seen enough of Fredericks now to realise time to move him on.

  2. What game were you watching only giving .Noble a 5 !

  3. Very disappointed to see Diangana get the nod ahead of Holland, he has already been given plenty of opportunities to show what he is about (afraid not much it seems) but Holland is still unproven at the highest level. We had a chance to get back in the mix for 7th and blew it (albeit unjustly and with a good performance) so lets focus on giving the fans something to celebrate and assessing who is going to feature next year.
Glad Masuaku played well, really hope we hang onto him

  4. Noble gets 1 for turning up , 1 for tossing up and 1 for being local boy . That makes 3 which is about right for what he contributed .

    • Bubbles, if you go to a game you might learn a thing or two about how good a player Nobes is and what it takes to play in the premier 300 plus. Disgraceful comments and personally I would have had you banned by now if it were my site.

  5. Agree with Hammer22, Noble won possession back many times and was busy throughout ,worth 7/10

  6. You must have watched a different game to me Bubbles. I agree with Hammer 22. Trouble is Noble just goes about doing his job, nothing spectacular but effective. If you watch the game hoping he makes mistakes so you can criticise of course you will see him doing things wrong, simply because you are looking for his mistakes. Every player is the same in this context but you seem to dig him out every week. Sometimes when he has played well you give him a grudging mention but it is always with a qualification. You obviously don’t like him but you let your bias gets the better of you . It gets very tedious. Strange how our stats say we win more with him than without.

  7. Noble was better than a 5 hugh. Did you watch the whole game? That’s a serious question by the way. Strange mark to give.

  8. I agree with High’s comment elsewhere that Antonio showed why we must keep him – he is in many ways the only alternative we have to ARnie with pace and strength , energy and movement. I still feel that Chicarito is a luxury player and doesnt offer enough over the whole game.
Overall I felt that this was far and away our best performance for a long time (apart from Newcastle at home) so while I am disappointed taht we didn’t get at least a draw, I feel a lot more optimistic about next season than I have been – and feel that we can get a win against Leicester if we play like that

I also agree with ahammer that Diangana has yet to show much in the premier league – which brings to question how much in fact our bringing through young players has improved – I dont think that in the long run DIangana will prove better than players such as Freddie Sears, Zevon HInes etc and we still need to see whether Xande Silva will be better than Tony Martinez who also banged them in for fun in the under 23’s
