How we rated the Irons at Villa

Fabianski: Two brilliant stops and right at the top of his game 8

Fredericks: Maybe unlucky to be denied a pen at the end and had a decent all round game 6

Diop: Right back to his very best with a “they shall not pass performance.” Terrific 8

Ogbonna: Has settled in well with Diop. No problems tonight 7

Masuaku: Unlucky to be sent off for me . Had done fine until then 6

Rice: All over the midfield closing down and getting better with each game 8

Noble: Couldn’t fault the work rate but walked a tightrope after an early card 6

Yarmolenko: Started brightly but faded before being subbed 5

Lanzini: Heavily marked but so classy he continues to make things happen 8

Anderson: Disappointing how he is so easily brushed aside and can make those sloppy passes 5

Haller: Some great hold up play as usual and always looking for a clever assist 6

Subs

Fornals: On late and and clearly isn’t up to PL pace or the necessary decision making 5

Zaba: Came on when Arthud was red carded – plenty of forward running and decent defending 6

Balbuena: No rating

  1. Sounds about right to me.

Anderson really frustrates me. You know he’s capable of so much more, but he regularly seems to play within himself; like he’s worried about letting go. Such a shame that he doesn’t have the same confidence to show off his talents that Payet did – he’s just as good.

  2. Sorry do not agree with scores for Haller and Anderson. Both worked their socks off.

  3. Anderson drives me crazy. The last thing a full back or centre half wants is to have a pact skilful winger running at them. He got to the byline once ! He moves down the wing until challenged, then stops and passes it backwards.

  4. I thought Lanzini, Noble, Rice and Haller all played very well. Lanzini my MOTM. Haller was a beast after the sending off.

  5. Mike Dean rating? This bloke must have some embarrassing photos of the PL CEO! How is he still a top rated ref? Every game he has to make one decision to say ‘ Look at what a big man I am’. Pathetic.

  6. I thought Yarmo and Anderson both worked their socks off, we have two defenders that are not great defensively and both wingers really helped them out. All the players could have been better with the final pass other than Fornals in the last seconds we didn’t have an open shot.
