How we rated the Irons v Burnley

|
CandH’s Sergey Novysh takes on the marking job on another quite awful day for the Irons.
Hart
I’ve been advocating for a change after Adrian conceded 8 goals in 2 games. Well, I’ve been wrong. Very poor performance by Hart. Nervous play, misskicks, didn’t produce a single save. Third goal is just a humiliation. Joe had his chance and he wasted it. 3

Zabaleta
Solid performance in the first half. Didn’t do much wrong in the second. 5
Collins
Played well until Burnley scored their first. Made a few good interceptions and clearances. Tried to fix Ogbonna’s mistake and stop Barnes from shooting but didn’t succeed. 5
Ogbonna
Just like the rest of the squad played OK until minute 66. Yet it was his mistake which led to first goal – lazy defending at it’s best. Let down the team in the crucial moment. Again. 3
Cresswell
Good game overall. Especially in the first half: great corner-kick which led to Mario’s free strike, few decent interceptions, lively moving and passing, good link-up play with Antonio and Lanzini. Should’ve had a penalty after another decent cross been stopped by Lennons hand. Made a few mistakes defensively including the moment with Burnleys goal (mistakenly) disallowed for offside. 6
Kouyate
Average performance. 5
Noble
Near-perfect performance for 60 minutes. Seven interceptions, ruthless play. Captain knew how important this game was for us. Behaved like a real Hammer when idiots started to run onto the pitch. 7
Antonio
Played on the left, then been moved to the middle (for a while) in the second. Brought a lot of energy and positivity. Made numerous runs and crosses. 7
Lanzini

Good to see Manu returning to his best. Produced some decent moves, drawn a lot of fouls (including awful one by Westwood worth a red card). Had a brilliant chance, but Pope made a super save with his foot. Overall encouraging performance. 6

Joao Mario

Played a great through ball to Arnie. Had a free shot in the box after decent Cressies corner, but fired it over the bar. Showed some signs of progress. 6

Arnautovic

Played with energy and desire again. Had two good chances, but it wasn’t Arnies day. 6

SUBS

Hernandez

Didn’t do anything worth mentioning. 4

Dyches tactics showed us why we are where we are and Burnley are pushing for Europe.Yes they rode their luck in the 1st half, but we committed the cardinal sin of not taking our chances and hell were we punished.By being brave enough to bring on Wood he went for it with 2 strikers and you can argue the case that we as the home side started with no strikers. What has Hernandez done wrong?.Dropped after his best run of form and Hugill just seems to be an afterthought to appease the fans after another disastrous transfer window.Sorry but Moyes needs to look at his team selection again. Why was Adrian dropped?.How the hell is Kouyate getting picked week in week out?.Worst of all we now have 3 weeks for the fallout to fester and gather momentum. If Saints turn us over i can honestly see relegation as a real possibility.
