How we rated the Irons v Everton

niallmc

Niall McDonald has returned and brings you his ratings from the improved Hammers performance against Everton this afternoon.

Winston-Reid-714445Adrian: Only really called into action once, and that was to gather his own fumble from a throw-in 5

Fonte: Looked more solid than I’ve seen him in previous games. Safety in numbers perhaps 6

Reid: Back in the side and marshalled the troops excellently 7

Collins: 110% concentration today with Lukaku around. Some trademark no nonsense defending 7

Masuaku: MOTM for me. Showed real pace and incisiveness in attack 8

Fernandes: The other bleach-blonde twin did his fair share of defensive work 5

Nordtveit: A VERY shaky start but improved. Broke up play regularly in the latter stages 6

Kouyate: Shook off an injury in the third minute to register our first attempt on goal about half an hour later 5

Lanzini: Always looking forward, virtually all of our attacks were started by, or involved Manu today 7

Ayew: Played in extremely short bursts. Frustrating 4

Calleri: Sakho’s warm-up man ploughed a very lonely furrow up front for an hour 4

Subs:

Sakho: Greeted with a standing ovation, he made a couple of harrying runs without getting a clear sight of goal 5

Cresswell: Bilic surprised a few round me by bringing Cresswell on at right wing-back late on. Had little impact 3

  1. Harsh on Calleri and Ayew in my book. Couldn’t fault either for their work rate. Just needed a bit more composure in front of goal. 6 for both.

  2. Adrian was better than 5, the silly bouncing throw in played him into trouble.Nordvelt had a VERY decent game game and shouldn’t be part of any summer clear out if this is is what he can deliver .
This was an extremely encouraging team performance against strong opposition who very few sides will keep goal less.

  3. Masuaku looks the part now too.If we could just capture that quality striker in the Summer I would be quietly confident on a marked improvement next season.

  4. Compared to our recent performances everyone deserved a 7 or 8. This was the first time for ages we played as a team – in BOTH halves! No we didn’t have anyone with that strikers instinct but we dealt with everything Everton could throw at us and they are a good team. Good tactics from Bilic for the players we had. A win at Stoke next week and then maybe give the youngsters a go.

  5. I do not take too much notice of these ratings I thought today they all played as a team & deserved 7. Calleri was good put himself about & kept the Everton defence on their toes I would have kept him on with Sako & took off Ayew who I think tries to do too much & slows the game down or loses the ball. Nordvelt had a good game at last playing in his right position ( I hope Slav takes note ) let’s hope Slav plays the same team next week with Sako given more game time.

  6. Not sure why when rating players someone has to have a higher mark than all the others?! Masuaka had a great game but Ginge was equal to him ..all round a good performance and far better than I expected!

  7. The thing I noticed most was a player who wasn’t playing…..Mark Noble. Without him we move the ball much quicker through midfield, and Nordveit has much better tackling and distribution (on today’s evidence, at least). I know it’s been a popular move to criticise Nobes, but there may well be a valid point about the way he slows play down.

  8. Musaku and Collins were a class apart today. Musaku looks like he could be the best long term prospect from last summers splurge.
For me Kouyate was very quiet (maybe due to the early knock) and it was right to take him off. Not much movement from Callieri or Ayew let alone a shot in n target.
All Adrian had to defend was a dodgy throw in.
Norvelt improved in the last twenty minutes but up to then was anonymous.

  9. Do me a favour nordvelt was shocking, a couple of decent passes when he had loads of time but was always looking like losing the ball when any players near him, get rid in the summer. As for Adrian it was not a dodgy throw in to him goalkeepers deal with far worse back passes without the antics he showed when he fluffed his kick, also if he had caught the attacker with his feet when he went back to grab the ball he would have been straight off, total lunatic who should concentrate on game not getting hot headed at every little incident. As for the rest of the team I was happy with all of them but callieri is so short on confidence he just needs to be told to go out and try all his tricks and flicks as he is a way better player than what we are seeing

    • Apart from the several times he intercepted and muscled Neverton players off the ball. Oh and popped the ball about yeah he was bad lol! Never understood West Ham supporters hating their own players.

Adrian had the ball thrown at him he was not expecting, it was bouncy and came at him at his hip and was closed down by two Neverton players, how he can get blamed for that….

I totally agree about Calleri and Slavs refusal to give him games has been infuritating

  10. 2 subs? No trusting the kids at all. Academy over.

  11. I keep disagreeing with these match ratings!!

Adrian 6. Never a 5, had nothing to do apart from a bonkers throw in from Fernandes. How he can be rated lowly for that is beyond me
Fonte 6.5 Youre rating of 6 while the rest was 7 is harsh and sounds rather biased. Competed as well as reid and made good decisions every time. Made one excellent tackle to stop Lukaku and brought the ball out well.
Reid 6.5 As good as Fonte, made excellent decisions and was no nonsense
Collins 7.5 Said it before, our best pure defender and someone I would build the defense around
Masuaku 8 His best game for West Ham and was superb. Did not stop running, great pace, lovely little flicks and well composed
Fernandes 4.5 How you gave Fernandes and Adrian the same rating of 5 is madness. It was him that threw the ball back into play with a bouncing ball at Adrians hip while he was not ready. With the ball at his feet is a good dribbler, but poor passes and first touch needs improving.
Nordtveit 7.5 You rated him a 6 as well? Wow. Mad some outstanding interceptions, closed down excellently and some really good cross field passes.
Kouyate 4.5 Pretty much anonymous and didnt affect the game. Seems as if he is playing injured.
Lanzini 6.5 Showed lovely passes and a rabona to nobody. Did not stop working and was the rare bit of creatitivy in a defensive set up
Ayew 4.5 Hardly effected the game, but how you rated him our worst player is hilarious.
Calleri 4.5 Very harsh rating of 4 from you, is not a number 9 but a 10. Has pace and did not stop running, had no service but never gave up. The ball slows down too much with him but he has hardly played in the PL.
Sakho 4.5 Looks very short of fitness but to rate him as high as 5 compared to the ratings given to others seems odd.

Billic 8 We needed to stop conceding, stop a tough Neverton side who are our bogey team plus we had so many players out, this was tactically spot on for me. The 3-5-2 looks so much better with 3 centre halves than Kouyate playing in there.

Roger East (Ref) 4 Made some inconsistant decisions and his bookings were very odd. Fonte got booked for one foul where the opponent was past him, fair enough, but the ref did not book Masuaku, Williams and Davies for the same thing. Davies commited at least 2 yellow care offences yet received no card. Schneiderlin also committed at best only one yellow card offence, recieved none. Barry picked up a booking for his first foul which was less than others that had gone on. Some very odd decisions and inconsistant performance.
