How we rated the Irons v Leicester

CandH’s Niall McDonald hands out the marks

Fabianski: Some regulation saves made with no fuss 6
Zabaleta: Again, showed his defensive nous and stamina against younger quicker opponents 6
Balbuena: Beaten for the first equaliser 5
Ogbonna: Very vocal early-on, taking the lead role marshalling the back-four around 6
Masuaku: Defended solidly and his attacking prowess helped move us upfield regularly 6
Rice: A game where he wasn’t called on for that much defensive work; left me wanting him to get more involved in starting attacking moves 6
Noble: There’ll come a time when I’ll miss these sort of performances from the skipper; non stop commitment, often slow in possession but provided the first bit of genuine quality with the cross for the opener 7
Snodgrass: Surprised to see him subbed first as he had put in his usual committed performance. Presumably the first in a planned sequence of changes 6
Anderson: Forgot he was playing until about 20 mins in. Attacked with real purpose as we took control and the lead for the second time 6
Antonio: An early heavy challenge seemed to light a fire in Michail and he really got going in the first half, capped with a deft headed goal. The first Hammer to celebrate on the hallowed claret astroturf 7
Arnautovic: For 60 mins it was tough-going. Eventually I wondered if our tactics were actually planned around not involving Marko 5

Subs
Obiang: Looked extremely rusty, yet his poked shot led to the 2nd and his through-ball for the disallowed 3rd was only slightly mistimed 5
Perez: Well well well; delight and surprise all round the stadium as Perez bagged a vital goal. Great strikers instinct 7

Wilshere: Completed his 10 minute cameo without visibly succumbing to injury 4

  1. Perez tho hasn’t played much jiatly off bench & in cups 12 apps altogether somehow he manages goals from right oalce right time most with in mins. He has really been crucial off bench. Not saying we should keep him but odd. That he averages a goal a lil over 100mins & has 6 goals & can’t even think of his kit number.

Noble & Antonio def stole the show. Ant getting his 25th goal 15 of which being headers has MOTM for me. 6 goals 5 assists not bad. He is one of the best headers in the PL. But he couldn’t head goals so he practiced it every day. If he did that with Left & right foot especially from outside box he could make such a difference to help his finishing. Be mad to sell him.
Shame we can’t hold a win. Tho supriaed to read we are only behind Liverpool (16) from coming behind losing position for points (15) then Leicester (14).
Snodgrass another good showing too great deliveries & Rice was solid but would of rather left Noble on tbh….

  2. He has a difficult job in the Summer.Who goes and who stays.Certain players who were nailed on to leave are starting to play a bit now as the Summer shop window nears.Every area needs strengthening but we will have to sell to buy.
