How we rated the Irons v Manchester United

Niall McDonald hands lout the marks:

Fabianski: Pretty comfortable afternoon. Not sure if he should have held the ball for their first, or if it was a good save 7
Coufal: A truly heroic effort up against Ronaldo. Looked devastated at the final whistle 9
Zouma: Outstanding defending 9
Ogbonna: Looked like he’d been playing alongside Zouma for years 8
Cresswell: Got forwards really well in the second half 8
Soucek: Played his part defensively. I felt at times he wasn’t his usual self running onto crosses in the United box 7
Rice: A magnificent display. By a distance the best central midfielder on the field 10
Benrahma: A different player to last season. Stronger, more robust, shows for the ball and deserved his goal 9
Fornals: All energy as usual. Missed having the focal point of Antonio 8
Vlasic: Showed enough glimpses of ability and potential. Let’s give him a chance to get up to full PL-stamina before we judge him 7
Bowen: Great effort, like Fornals seemed to struggle to get into the middle when we had the ball out wide 8

Subs
Yarmolenko: A few trademark flicks and intricate touches nearly paid off 5
Lanzini: Deployed late to help shore up the midfield 5
Noble: Dear me… just when you think you’ve seen everything at West Ham – how do you score someone on one kick???

  1. Cresswell and Souchek well under par today. The pair of them couldn’t string a pass together for some reason. Those that played Thursday night in Europe looked a bit leggy and off the pace truth be told.

  2. True we looked tired some more than others. Souchek covers so much of the pitch that’s why he tired as for cresswell we all know he is over thirty but we had no natural left back fit to come in. Also did he deserve getting dropped Clive.
