How we rated the Irons v Newcastle

hughhat

Hugh hands out his rating on a very, very bad day

Hart:  Not much chance with the goals and a couple of decent saves 5

Zabaleta: One of the ‘better’ performers on an awful day 6

Ogbonna: Just an average defender often very troubled by ordinary strikeforce 4

Collins: Same old Ginge but like Oggy often left exposed by that midfield 5

Cresswell: Doesn’t look the player he once was and some very wayward and careless crosses 5

Rice: Lost out in midfield for the first goal, punished by Bilic’s withdrawal when far worse than him on pitch

Antonio: Always looked to make things happen – never stopped trying 7

Noble: Sorry this can’t go on – won a lot of cheap free kicks and that was about it 4

Fernandes: Anonymous 4

Ayew: Why is he at the club?…what is he?…so poor again 2

Hernandes: Must wonder what he’s done to deserve this – no service and no impact 5

Subs:

Kouyate: Arrived too late to make any sort of difference 4

Lanzini: Looked rusty and too big an ask for him to make a difference at this point 4

Sakho: Like the others found himself chasing a lost cause 4

  1. You have to wonder about Ayew – a nothing player – do you think they maybe got the Ayew brothers mixed up?

Whatever, not worth a place in the team – largely ananymous – you have to worry about the judgement of whoever is signing these players!

  2. Ayew was a good player at Swansea. Fonte was good at Southampton. Snodgrass was good at Hull and the list goes on. The club is the problem not whos buying the players

    • Tend to agree Schua, too many players playing out of their natural position, Fernandez on the wing !!!
Definitely internal problems here for me, besides the fact we have no back up for Lanzini.

  3. Scauthing -that sound is a nail being hit well & truly on the head.

I may be proved wrong, but I think a decent manager could get a decent defence out of our current squad ( I sure hope so anyway!) But Bilic can’t.

    • Yeah,of course, If we don’t keep loaning out the likes of Burke, Oxford, Cullen etc. Even Rice is already playing out of his natural position. I am not a fan of Hart but he has really had to try to cope with a defence that is always changing. No continuity or cohesion. Not one for sacking people but it’s time for change in the managerial position not the playing staff. However, we still need another creative player and maybe a ball winner in midfield although Kouyate & Obiang fit will be OK

  4. Zabba, Collins, cresswell , 4. Poor defending , poor midfield !
