H/T: Irons in front but need more cutting edge

Sakho whamaction

HT: Irons 1 Rangers 0

Sam Allardyce will be justifiably disappointed that the team hasn’t gone in at the end of the first half with more to show for 45 minutes of dominance.

The Hammers took the lead via an own goal from Onuohu from a brilliantly  delivered Stewart Downing corner although there were Rangers complaints that Enner Valencia had handled.

With Stewart Downing prompting and probing, the home side showed all the pace and movement without ever seriously threatening to add to the lead.

Carl Jenkinson got the shout over Guy Demel at right back and a late injury to Diego Poyet saw Mauro Zarate called up.

But it was Sakho who looked the main threat as he moved into great areas and on one occasion was the victim of a cynical Sandro ‘tackle’ as he broke forward.

The visitors managed just one real effort when Charlie Austin tested Adrian but beyond that Harry Redknapp’s outfit offered little.

The Hammers – despite creating little beyond the early goal – had little trouble in containing the Hoops before pressing forward but Allardyce will want more cutting edge in the second half.
