Huge boost for Hammers in Europe chase

West Ham were given a mega boost in their bid to qualify for the Champions League on Monday night as Arsenal were beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Gunners appeared to be in the driving seat to qualify for the competition but were brought back down to earth with a huge bump against the Eagles.

Patrick Vieira’s side dominated Mikel Arteta’s men, recording a big win, and blowing the top-four race wide open.

Spurs subsequently remain fourth, with 54 points from 30 games, while the Gunners are fifth, with the same points from one fewer game.

By comparison, the Hammers sit sixth, having taken 51 points from 31 games.

The Irons, though, will have a real hope that they can overhaul both of their London rivals, particularly as they are set to play Arsenal on May 1st, a game that could have a decisive effect on the Hammers’ bid to qualify for Europe’s top club competition.
