There’s a huge update on West Ham’s striker situation this morning.
West Ham’s board will insist that Callum Wilson stays until the end of the season to give them a chance of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
Wilson hasn’t been in Nuno Espírito Santo’s plans after spending £50m on two new strikers, but Saturday showed the power of the veteran striker as his strike earned the Hammers three vital points away at Spurs.
The 33-year-old striker has been missing from the match day squad until Saturday, but Nuno included him, maybe under some pressure from the board.
A club source confirmed Wilson was the only ‘board’ signing of the summer, and the West Ham board will not sanction his exit.
Wilson is on a small basic weekly wage with large appearance and goal bonuses.
The West Ham board feel they need his services for the remainder of the season and will do what is required to keep him in the squad.
Many fans had taken to Claret and Hugh’s comments section to voice their own opinions that the club’s second highest scorer this season should not be allowed to leave amidst a relegation battle.
If he had a proper contract he wouldn’t want to leave. Is Sullivan now going to sort that?!
If it wasn’t a “proper contract” he wouldn’t have signed it in the first place. It’s been pretty clear that playing time is more of an issue for Callum Wilson than money.
There are enough issues to hang on Sullivan, you don’t have to invent more.
No brainer – we struggle for goals but happy to let one of our few goalscorers leave !
Wilson has stayed fit, and that was the issue when we brought him here. A fit Callum Wilson is still a decent forward. Let’s hope he stays that way !
Don’t think two new players are prolific to say the least, but Taty looks half decent.
Pablo got touch of Rhinoceros with gout !
Fair play to Wilson, same for Calvert-Lewin at Leeds, injury prone but Leeds took a gamble and paying off massively !
Quite agree Kenny
We need to keep Wilson,he could be the difference to help avoid relegation.
Would start him on bench and bring him on like Saturday against Spurs
Taty I am impressed with, he does a lot of running and closing down and has slotted in nicely.
Pablo also I like what I have seen, he is young and needs to gel with his new team mates, let’s encourage, they have come in a dire situation and want to help or they would not have signed
I am concerned we still have not signed any defenders to replace Kilman and for extra back up
But am optimistic that more players are to come in
I just hope we look at young players, if the are older maybe loan would be better
Let’s get behind the players, they will need a massive atmosphere at the London stadium on Saturday
So come on let’s make some noise and get behind them
True – but the same could be said about Craig Dawson
Fans are notoriously fickle – but Callum Wilson can now help mobilize the fans (and hopefully score a few more winning goals)
Clearly Wilson is the better of all our strikers. His career record says that, and his current goal tally too.
How the board could have allowed Nuno to waste more millions on 2x new strikers who need to adjust to EPL standards, also when better defenders are desperately needed, is really very baffling.
Please add my vote to “The Keep + play Callum Wilson demands sheet” Thank you.
I hope this is true. Nuno dont have a clue ! JWP has been exiled yet somehow Guido Rodriguez gets game time which is like having 10 players when he plays. Wilson is also clearly the best out and out striker we have at the club, I like Taty but would have Wilson over him anytime and as for Pablo my God what a donkey, slow and clumsy. What a waste of £20m
That’s a bit harsh on Pablo, he is a 21 year old in a foreign country who has just made his debut. In my opinion he did ok at Spurs. You don’t write for that terrible West Ham Zone site that insists at least one player is garbage and should go every game, do you?
Perhaps you should sit down and rewatch the match Spencer.
Yes he is still getting back to sharpness after injury, and his touch is sometimes Antonio-esque, but Pablo was a key piece of the jigsaw that allowed us to dominate the first half and ultimately win the match. He’s only been here 5 minutes, give him a chance.
and he’s had involvement in two goals, in first two starts… and we won both games… give him a break…
Four months ago few people wanted him here, now all of a sudden he’s a cult hero who can’t be allowed to leave.
Just my observation.
No one said he was a cult hero, but he is a proven goal scorer………….
And your point is……………?
@Rob.G. So what you are saying is that he SHOULD leave? Just my observation.
