Huge Irons summer with new deals and signings to sort out

Head of recruitment Rob Newman faces a busy summer with the number of Irons players coming out of contract within a year or two along with those whose deals run out at the end of the season

And with that comes the major job of finding quality new players for the squad following a blank winter window given the failure to sign the likes of Kalvin Phillips

Aaron Cresswell is likely to be offered a new deal given that he will be out of contract in the June of 2023 along with Issa Diop, 25 and Manu Lanzini, 29.

Ben Johnson is currently at the centre of new talks with his deal ending this summer although he has a two year option whilst Diop has one for another 12 months.

Craig Dawson is also out of contract in 2023 whilst Ryan Fredericks and Andriy Yarmolenko become free agents this summer if they are not retained. Angelo Ogbonna will also be offered a new deal once fully recovered from injury.

Beyond that the Hammers will be looking for a  new striker and central defender plus a left back in what could turn out to be their busiest summer for some years.

  1. Does anyone have an inkling as to why we haven’t seen much of Ben Johnson lately? He played in the Cup ties against Leeds and Kidderminster, but hasn’t sniffed PL action since he was taken off at halftime against Palace back on New Year’s Day.
