Sitting out West Ham’s home fixtures, watching as a spectator, is nothing new for Niclas Fullkrug. The injury prone striker missed half of last season and, following his thigh muscle strain is back on West Ham’s treatment table. Nuno did reveal some better news about “West Ham’s’ German” last week, suggesting he’s back training on grass and won’t be too much longer in his recovery.
However there are fresh reports today which seem to be pretty conclusive: Fullkrug is unlikely to stay very much longer at London Stadium.
As per todays dailmail.co.uk, Fullkrug’s agent has revealed that the forward’s move to West Ham has been a disaster and he needs to move on:
“According to [Fullkrug’s] agent Thorsten Wirth, the player’s side are now hunting for a way out:”Looking back, we have to say the transfer didn’t work out. There’s no point in sugarcoating it.
Fullkrug’s transfer ‘didn’t work out’ and means it is time to move on
“When asked if he would try and help his client leave West Ham, Wirth said: ‘This always has to happen in cooperation with the club, but I believe it can make sense to change something there.
‘Time and again, at a point where you said now he’s coming, now he’ll show England that it wasn’t just a good European Championship and then nothing more will come of it – another injury came along, and that’s a shame.
‘He had a bit of a negative momentum and also some bad luck.’
You can say that again. The questionable wisdom of signing Fullkrug in the first place has been well-documented. It does seem unlikely that Fullkrug will command much more than half his £26m purchase price, with having no match fitness and a need to build himself up yet again.
West Ham urgently need someone ten years his junior without the high-mileage legs, who is likely to provide the 10 goals plus and the hold up play that the Hammers are desperate to see. It does sound, from his agent’s words, that Fullkrug will likely be on his way soon. Of course, providing the Hammers can sign a replacement. Which is never a ‘given’ at this club.
As always with West Ham you just know his worst period was with us and soon as he leaves to play for another team he’ll be back in great form and banging the goals in. We’ve seen that happen with scammaca and Haller and many more that came before. What seems to be wrong is the timing. We always seem to get them at the wrong point in their career, just after or just before they’re injured seems to be our style.
Sounds like we are looking for Evan Ferguson to join us. He sold it – we bought it. Sometimes luck has to play a big part.
Hope that we are lucky. Really would not have minded if he had been fit and playing in the team we fielded against Toon. He would have done well given the pressing support.
Still time to give us a hat full of goals and supports before he moves on.
Why can we not give Marshall, Gulhimere or Cummings a go before we get to January, they could very well fill the position
The extra five million or so that we wouldn’t stretch to for Duran must have cost us an absolute fortune…
A shame this had not worked out. Both from Fullkrug’s words and efforts on the pitch shows he really wanted this to work out. Can’t blame his effort or attitude.
£26mil.??
The numbers widely reported to be £20mil. +++ , which is peanuts for an established German international . IMHO he’s been an unfortunate casualty of West Hams turbulent organisation.
Good he’s been a complete waste of time and money. He can take B&S with him.
