Former West Ham manager David Moyes returning for a second stint at his former club Everton has given me chills.

Not that I have anything against Everton or indeed Moyesie himself, who should carry legendary status for steering the Hammers through Covid and winning our first trophy of the new millennium. In many respects, I wish the Scotsman—and indeed Everton—all the best… just as long as they finish below West Ham.

Because Moyes taking over the Toffees—who are just one place below the Hammers currently—and lifting them above us would be intolerable.

One can only imagine the likes of Chris Sutton, Alan Brazil, Alan Shearer, and Sam Allardyce rubbing the noses of Irons fans into the stink created by such a humiliating turnaround.

If I’m brutally honest, I’m not entirely sure even the Moyesiah is capable of dragging Everton much higher than they currently are without significant investment. However, Julen Lopetegui is most definitely capable of taking this team lower before things get better, so anything is possible.

I’m certainly not in the camp who believe that because Lopetegui is poor, Moyes has suddenly become better in hindsight. Far more likely is that change was needed at West Ham, and the choice of the new head coach has gone spectacularly wrong.

I don’t believe it will take much to get West Ham moving up the table with players like Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus at the club. They are the sort of players who emphasise just how well backed Moyes was at the London Stadium.

Will owner David Sullivan offer Moyes a new deal as West Ham manager?

Moyes spent a lot of money at West Ham

The best job Moyes ever had

Much is made of how the two-time Irons gaffer was treated poorly in East London, but he was also backed more than at any time in his managerial career. Not at Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, or in La Liga did Moyesie get to spend even a fraction of the £440+ million he was supported with at West Ham.

Unfortunately, you won’t hear that said by the media machine, who would rather paint Moyes as the victim rather than someone who was afforded the opportunity to resurrect his career after a huge failure.

But none of that will matter if Sean Dyche’s replacement turns out to be Moyes. They’ll be wanting him to prove a point about just how deluded those pesky Hammers were to get rid of him

Oh you’re going to love the opinion piece by Robbie Fowler in today’s mirror then. According to Fowler West Ham should have been “careful what they wished for” when forcing Moyes out. I’ve not heard that said or written before.

  • Moyes Mum says:

Except Moyes whether by choice or not was given nothing to spend in January window. We will soon see how Lopetegui fares in comparison.

It will be the Everton fans who “cant bear to watch” and “could be painful” for them watching the dull and uninspiring football served up by Moyes.

New stadium next season and a dinosaur leading their team. Replacing Dyche with Moyes would be like us swapping Moyes for JLo.

A team below us that certainly won’t go down if Moyes returns to Everton. Also they nearly always beat us when he was their manager. I too have the chills 😊

I think Moyes’ recruitment is in a large part responsible for where we are now. He had forever and a day to bring in a forward but didn’t. We were in a position where we needed to bring in a large number of players as a matter of urgency in the Summer window should never arisen as that’s creating unnecessary problems.

Lopetegui has not dealt with that inheritance well, indeed he has done poorly, but it is a problem that whoever the new manager was they should not have had.

Lopetegui has dealt with inheritance about as well as the Labour government.

If JLo was a farmer there would be a famine due to him ruining crops. The cows would go mad, sheep would get lost and the chickens wouldn’t lay eggs! 🤣🤣🤣
