I Can’t Stop Watching West Ham’s Relegation Rivals – And Why Should I?

Watching rivals is part of being a West Ham fan

Yes, yes—I know. West Ham can only concentrate on ourselves, “just concentrate on what Nuno does”.

It’s something I’ve heard multiple times over recent weeks whilst trying to make sense of the relegation picture.

Apparently, it’s now the done thing to ignore everything else and focus purely on your own team. But I spent years on the terraces at Upton Park with my ear glued to a tiny radio powered by a 12v battery, checking scores from everywhere. Plenty asked for updates—nobody ever said, “Just concentrate on West Ham, the rest will take care of itself.”

So if you’re not interested in Nottingham Forest or Tottenham, feel free to move along.

Forest clash could have big implications for West Ham

For those still here… Forest travel to Sunderland tonight in a game that could have a real impact on West Ham.

Their win against Burnley had some claiming they’d pulled clear of trouble—but that feels premature.

There are only three points between us, and unless they better our result this weekend, they’re still very much in it. I also believe Vítor Pereira’s side have the tougher run-in, especially with a Europa League semi-final thrown into the mix.

Sunderland won’t make it easy

Sunderland have plenty to play for as well.

They’re just three points off the European places after an excellent return to the Premier League, so they won’t be rolling over for anyone.

So yes—I’ll be tuned in tonight at 8pm, and there’s every chance I’ll be writing about what it means for West Ham afterwards.

You’ve been warned.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Gonzo, it is all part of being aware and understanding all of the many permutations. Anyone who is claiming not to care what the other teams are doing are the ones that are saying Leeds and Forest are out of it. They are not! Close but not clear yet. You are spot on saying that Forest have a tough run in. Trying to gather all of the facts and then to try and draw comfort from it as a West Ham supporter is what this game is all about. You cannot possibly process all of the possibilities if you have not looked at the broader picture.
