“I Need More Time” | Potter Hints at West Ham Turnaround in Patience Pea

West Ham manager Graham Potter has suggested he may need more time to transform the club into his vision.

Speaking ahead of Monday night’s Premier League clash with David Moyes’ Everton, Potter told reporters:
ā€œYou have to look at where the club was, where the club has been, where the club’s at and realistically what is needed to improve.

We live in a world where we want things instantly, but whenever you do something meaningful and important, sometimes it takes some time.ā€

Potter suggested he had inherited a mess form Julen Lopetegui

The Hammers boss is fully aware of the growing pressure he faces, but it was still an extraordinary plea for patience from a man who has already overseen 25 games as head coach. Fans might have forgiven slow progress if there were signs of improvement, but the reality is the team look porous in defence and blunt in attack.

As for Potter’s claim about where the club stood when he replaced Julen Lopetegui, many would argue the team is actually in a worse position now than under the Spaniard.

To be fair, press conferences are never easy, but it’s hard to escape the feeling that the man in West Ham’s dugout still hasn’t fully grasped what is going wrong with his team.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!

I found you references to Potter And JWP to be offence. A case for the thought police perhaps.

Agreed. He seems totally clueless about what to do, leading to very dubious pre-game and in-game tactical decisions.

But I still very much blame Moyes for leaving the team with such a defeatist mentality, and a lack of desire for the ball. Players don’t move to find positions to receive the ball from defenders, which leads to to slow, ponderous build-ups that give the opposition loads of time to set themselves. And don’t talk to me about throw-ins. We’re the only PL team that is guaranteed to lose the ball from our own throw-ins, because nobody really wants the ball.

Can’t see it, I wanted Potter to succeed but there’s no way that I see that happening now. Nuno is the best bargain basement manager when bargain basement is what we’re going to get so bring him in asap.

I found some of the comments on the story that the senior players are supporting Potter to be a bit tasteless – implying that the senior players involved are Kilman and JWP because he keeps them in the team. I am sure that they also include Jarrod Bowen and Soucek – as a supporter I am happy to see players concerned to try and get us a win – while Potter is still at the helm they will give him their support and so should we

I agree that Potter’s record is poor and that if he were to be fired he cannot complain – but we should always support the team and while Potter is still the manager that means supporting him too

It is sad to see Claret and Hugh degenerating into a manager hatred site (first Moyes, then Lopetegui and now Potter) rather than a Hammers supporting site

How long will it be before we start getting Nuno out posts?

Agreed. Perhaps a job for the thought police. Offence remarks need to be reported.

To be honest, I find your labelling of sporting observations as ‘hatred’ a bit tasteless.

I think you’ll need to find a new a new word to replace hatred if you thank that is the definition of it. I’ve seen a lot of hatred in my life but it tends to be for things other than implying a football coach has preferred players.

More.time.. He had had long enough! We are not even close to turning a corner..we have a gormless manager who keeps playing the same out of their depth players when we need someone brave making decisions and cracking a few heads in the changing room!

  • Rocco says:

I mean you could argue that Lopetegui took over an ageing squad and made it older… and that Potter only got the players he wanted at the end of August. So in fact he’s only four weeks in.

  • Danny Galea says:

    ABSOLUTELY DELUDED!

  • Matt says:

I found JLO’s press conferences difficult to fully comprehend. Potter just talks absolute bollox!

We gave JLO too much time and Potter had already had longer in the post and managed to make us even worse which is unbelievable.

Dead man walking and just hope Brady is given her long overdue P45. They can then talk about their shared failures over payoffs!

  • Dean says:

Sometimes I wonder whether potter realises he’s been in the managerial seat for the last 9 months! I wonder if he realises it’s him that continues to pick ward prowse or if he realises he has won 2 games at home this year! The bloke is out of his depth and incapable of doing the job adequately, yet he wants more time to do even more damage 🤣🤣

  • FiskyBoy says:

If he plays JWP on Monday win or lose he has to go!
Bored of his excuses now! Got some great players sat on the bench and a handful of youth that will give their everything but instead he plays 1 trick ponies that every team (in the world) is aware of and we now have Diouf who can take the free kicks and crosses? JWP needs to go, hopefully in the same taxi as Clueless Potter? His team selection and tactics are really worrying. Keep playing the same rubbish and expecting different results is the definition of madness. I hope we get pumped on Monday by Moyes and then we can finally get rid of this clown, enough is enough and no amount of time will be enough! I just hope the boys don’t put a proper shift in to save him. I’m sick of reading about all of these managers linked with us as well? Get someone in that knows what they’re doing and please, please get rid of JWP or I will end up getting divorced….
