I want the FA cup but not at any cost

Travelling  on a bus to Canning town on Wednesday night after our victory over Watford, I over heard a conversation between a West Ham and two Watford fans on the top deck.

The West Ham fan said to the two sad Hornet fans “Don’t be so glum, you are going to Wembley at the weekend, you should be happy, I would gladly swap our 3-1 win in the league for a day at Wembley.”

The conversation got me thinking whether would sacrifice our final league position for a day out at Wembley and I found myself agreeing with the supporter that a selfish day at Wembley whether win or lose in the FA cup semi-finals would be much more rewarding to me personally than qualifying for the Europa league.

The discussion went one step further as I  listened to Talksport driving home from the station around 11pm on Wednesday. A West Ham fan came on the sports bar with Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy to suggest he would have gladly accepted relegation from the Premier League for a FA Cup win at Wembley this season. I am sorry but that goes way too far and over steps the mark, sure I want West Ham to win another FA Cup in my life time but not at any cost.

You have to get a little lucky in FA Cup , whereas in the League you have to get Good and consistent . It’s very difficult to maintain a balance of the two because they are totally different concepts . If it wasn’t for that slice of bad luck ( ref ) we wouldn’t have needed a replay against Man Utd and it would have been us on that bus to Wembly .. Having said that it might have interfered with our consistency in the League .
I would love a trip to Wembly , but I would rather qualify for Europe through league position .
We can , theoretically , with consistency still finish in top 4 .
