West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is determined to remain at the club and fight for his place, despite efforts to move him on during this transfer window.
It is a nice sentiment, and one that feels all too familiar, given Luís Guilherme uttered similar words before being flogged to Sporting CP just two weeks later.
It is strangely ironic that while some first-team players often display a lacklustre attitude towards representing the club, there is an underbelly of footballers desperate to pull on the shirt.
Deserves Another Chance Between the Sticks
Hermansen, only signed in the summer, is West Ham’s record fee for a goalkeeper and, if we are honest, he did a passable impression of Roberto under Graham Potter. However, it should be noted that at the time West Ham could not defend corners, and pretty much everyone was struggling.
I have not seen enough of him to know whether he is genuinely butter-fingered or a competent keeper, but surely he deserves another go? Against Queens Park Rangers last week he did not have much to do, but his distribution was noticeably superior to Alphonse Areola’s.
So I say give him a chance. He is far more likely to be around in the Championship and, crucially, he has that rarest of qualities… he actually wants to play for West Ham.

I recall that when West Ham were thinking of making an offer for Hermansen there was a YouTube video being touted online showing maybe 30 minutes of his action saves for Leicester. I watched it all, was very impressed and was very keen for us buying him. Looking back though, I don’t think there were many, if any, examples of him coming off his line to catch or punch clear high crosses. It seems whoever composed that video was very cleverly highlighting his fantastic shot stopping which could well have convinced our club to sign him. Buyer beware!
During corners he either stays on his line no matter whether the ball is in the six yard box or not or flaps at the ball . I don’t think that Potter knew anything about Hermanson and was hoodwinked by his goalkeeping coach into signing him with perhaps a brown paper bag or two changing hands . With the incompetence of BS leading Westham toward non league football perhaps Westham will find a suitably low level for Hermanson’s level of skill .
Hermansen was wrongly thrown in to the side by the clueless Potter. I believe he will prove to be a good signing now he has settled in.
I agree he was thrown into the side immediately after signing with no training sessions to settle in and opportunity to know the team and how they played. We need Nuno to go. He treats the players disgracefully and clearly has no idea what he is doing
