I have to say that I was quietly impressed with yesterday’s performance from summer signing Jean-Clair Todibo. It was the Frenchman’s first league start for the club, and while it wasn’t a scintillating performance, I think it was steady enough to offer encouragement and secure his place in the team.
The defender seems to have a good change of pace, is happy to compete in the air, times his tackles well, and possesses a good range of passing. He’ll need time to develop an understanding with Max Kilman, but early signs are good.
Todibo reflected on his first full 90 minutes in the Premier League, saying, “It felt great to complete my first match here.” He acknowledged the early setback, stating, “We conceded that early goal, but we responded well, and overall, I think we performed strongly.”
He added, “We probably deserved more than just a draw, but a point is still valuable.”
Todibo expressed his satisfaction with the club’s patience, explaining, “I’m grateful for the time the club gave me to regain fitness. I didn’t have a pre-season before joining, so it took a while to get back into shape.”
Commenting on the Premier League’s intensity, he said, “The game here is faster-paced than in Ligue 1, or even compared to other leagues around the world.”
While not yet at peak fitness, he remained optimistic: “I’m not at 100% yet, but I’m confident I’ll improve with time and make a positive impact on the team.”
That’s what we need honesty, hats off to todibo. I thought he did well yesterday but the surprise for me was dinos at right back ,I thought he looked confident defending and going forward which allows AWB to play left back as I feel that is our weakest position.
Todibo looked decent enough to me, and no shrinking violet pushing defenders about at corners. Mavropanos looked decent enough as a right back too, and AWB as a raiding left back is doubly not what we were told he was but did it well enough. He was better than Emerson even…
Mav at right back is going to get murdered by the really tricky pacy forwards of the top Six, but Coufal was being minced anyway, so what’s new. At least Mav is another threat in the box.
Todibo is a sound investment, he is quality and will be up to speed soon.
For me we might of stumbled onto something with Mavropanos at right back and AWB on the left, granted he aint the quickest Mav but he offers us something there which in turn releases AWB to play on the left instead of Emerson.
We missed a massive trick in the summer though not pushing the boat out for that Turkish left back that ended up at Brighton, he would of suited us perfectly.
Alls good though, got a lovely roast Pork lunch followed by an apple crumble so get in
You been on a fast last couple of days? 🙂
