David Gold has made clear the true depth of his feeling for West Ham after a fan on Twitter thanked him for risking his personal wealth for the sake of the club.

Gold has previously told ClaretandHugh that after selling up at Birmingham City he and David Sullivan looked at various clubs ahead of their move for the Irons.

But he told us his heart was not really in the hunt saying: “West Ham had always been the club I wanted and when it became available we never hesitated.”

He and DS looked at Charlton, Crystal Palace and Watford but once the Irons was avaialable there was no other show in town.

Now he has revealed on Twitter that had not been the case he probably would not have returned to the business of club ownership.

After a follower thanked him for risking his personal Gold declared: “I wouldn’t have done it for any other club than West Ham, the club I supported and played for as a boy. dg
