“Impressive Display” I Shining Light Amongst Shambles

Nobody excelled, obviously, in a 1-5 defeat at Anfield. From the ashes being raked over, it’s becoming clear amongst national outlets (and more ‘objective’ viewers than club fan sites) that one of the Hammers’ team gave a performance that wasn’t bad: As one source puts it, he gave an ‘impressive display” against Liverpool.

I’m not sure I’d be quite so quick to lavish praise, but ok, let’s read on.

Sportsview.co.uk and The Daily Mail were both of the opinion that summer signing Crysencio Summerville acquitted himself far more positively than most in the Liverpool defeat. Sportsview claimed it was: ‘A decent performance” by Summerville .

The Daily Mail went further: ..“Gave the 22-year-old a 6/10 rating noting he “looked sharp every time he got the ball”. They also believe the young winger could bring “some much-needed excitement” to the club.

Six marks out of ten is hardly world beating but compared with some of the ratings on show both from Gonzo’s article and national outlets, Crysencio should not feel too upset about getting six!

After joining West Ham this summer from Leeds United in a deal worth around £25 million, the winger has featured in four Premier League games so far, but three of them have been from the bench.

I hope that is about to change as he certainly showed why he is worth a starting place on the left for the Premier League now: Every outing he has troubled defenders and will only gain in confidence as his coach picks him to start more often. We need to see him in action at the weekend against Brentford.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I guess we don’t know what to expect with Lopetegui – he took him off against Chelsea when he was the best player and still picks teams not many of us would.

  • Hammer says:

Something has happened to Bowan not sure it its being captain but his attention seems to be on other players more than it is on his positioning. He is all over the place trying to fill gaps.
Also high press is fine if we had fast enough defenders and mid field we keep getting caught out

  • Gaz says:

Fast and skilled. Also small. At 5’9″ he will be buffeted by the EPL defenders who will foul him relentlessly. He needs a partner, a bruiser, who will wear the defenders down (Antonio like) and create space.
EPL is not dainty footy, but neither was Championship. Fun to watch.

You concede five goals you lose. We need to go back to basics defend as a team, stop conceding is the first priority. Alvarez is getting booked too often, it needs to reduce. Paqueta needs to pass the ball quicker in defensive areas, holding it too long needs to stop.

We didn’t get any breaks, missed chances, offside goal, penalty calls but at the end of the day if you concede five goals you lose.

I think we are in real trouble,

We have only got 3 centre backs and they are all dodgy!

We have no pace in midfield so where do we go?

We never beat Brentford so it’s looking very bleak.

If the manager is as good as he seems to think he is, I hope he can turn into Pep, and the sooner the better.

      # Extremely worried!
