With the domestic season ended and attention now shifting to the International stage ahead of the World Cup finals next month, the warm up friendlies offer opportunities for footballers to grab the media spotlight and carve out a name for themselves.
One who has wasted no time to do just that is West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville. Called into the Netherlands senior side for a much deserved debut, Summerville started as a right winger and dazzled from the off, with half a dozen trademark runs and set-ups for two of his Dutch team mates who, had they not been so profligate, would have led to a couple of first half goals against their Algerian opponents.
“Summerville has looked really lively on his debut” was the DAZN verdict at half time. I should say so.
Seeing Summerville excel in this unfamiliar right wing position will serve to remind managers and Sporting directors across the Premier League just what a talent is about to become available in the summer transfer window. Inverted left wing, right wing, ‘Cry’ can do it all. Who knew.

Summerville in his u21 days – now he has a full International appearance and looks odds-on to impress in the World Cup.
Indeed Summerville looks likely to build an even bigger reputation for himself if this first half of international football was anything to go by. Having represented the Netherlands at every level unto u21 he’s now made the leap to full international and taken to it much like a duck to water.
All of which will serve West Ham’s board well in one respect alone. His price, like his stock, is surely on the rise even though the Hammers owe Leeds United another few million in add-ons from Summerville’s elevation to full International.
Likely by the end of this World Cup there’ll be a whole hatful of Managers keen to integrate his undoubted talent into their top side. More’s the pity. Speaking purely as a West Ham fan, you understand.
Didn’t Potter play him as RWB v Villa in the cup before he went off injured?
Yes Keith, for that first 45 minutes of Potter era in the FA Cup game. After which Summerville vanished for half a season.
