West Ham United secured their first Premier League win of the season with a resounding 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The Hammers’ performance marked a significant improvement from our opening-day defeat against Aston Villa.
As Gonzo pointed out, Maximilian Kilman, a key figure in West Ham’s defensive line, delivered an outstanding performance. His contributions included six clearances, three interceptions, and a successful tackle. Kilman’s ability to read the game and intercept passes was instrumental in preventing Crystal Palace from creating scoring chances.
Tomáš Soucek opened the scoring for West Ham in the 67th minute with a well-placed finish. Jarrod Bowen doubled the lead just five minutes later, capitalising on a superb pass from Kilman. Bowen’s clinical finish showed what a class customer he is despite being quiet up to that point.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka, making his full debut for West Ham, played a significant role in the first goal. His powerful run down the right wing created space and allowed Bowen to deliver the cross for Soucek to finish. Wan-Bissaka’s pace and attacking threat were evident throughout his short time on the pitch.
West Ham dominated the second half, creating numerous chances and controlling the tempo of the game. The team’s improved performance demonstrated their ability to adapt and respond to challenges.
West Ham United’s victory over Crystal Palace was a significant step forward in project Lopetegui. The team’s defensive solidity, combined with our attacking play was a big step forward. Kilman’s performance and Wan-Bissaka’s impact were particularly noteworthy and it’s great to see the new faces settling into a rhythm so quickly.
Just asking, is an appearance as a substitute called a “full debut”?
