I didn’t pay too much attention to Mohammed Kudus’ prediction that he was going to move up to the next level this season.

Whilst it was pleasing to hear him speak of performing a more liberated role as part of a possession-based team, it was difficult to imagine him improving on last season’s endeavours.

To put it bluntly, Kudus was sensational in his first campaign with West Ham. He surpassed all expectations and was far more prolific than I thought he would be. The Ghanaian isn’t just eye candy either; the Premier League is full of players who have a vast array of tricks, but very few have the end product too.

In Mohammed Kudus, the Hammers have a player who is both pleasing on the eye and deadly in attack. I thought it would be a long time before West Ham were able to sign a player as good on the right-hand side as Jarrod Bowen. However, there were points last season when I honestly couldn’t say which one was the better player.

Therefore, I found it very difficult to believe Kudus when he made his bold prediction about the upcoming season. But having seen him deployed in a slightly more attacking role in today’s pre-season friendly, I’m starting to wonder whether or not he might be onto something.

Unstoppable

It’s early days in terms of assessing Julen Lopetegui’s tactics and strategy, but it would appear that the wider attackers in his team will be asked to do significantly less defending than they did under David Moyes.

There are many things that I’m excited about ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, and I’m not entirely sure which of our two lethal wide men will get the gig on the right-hand side. But I’m starting to believe what Kudus is saying, and if he can improve upon his first year at the club, the Hammers could be in for a very exciting season indeed.

    Alvarez / Paqueta / Kudus
Adeyemi / Jonathan David / Bowen

      Nice selection.
Need replacement for Todibo as he’s doing his utmost not to be a whu player. Maybe Jonathan Tah?
Don’t need anymore right side players but left wing needs addressing.
Pity Moyes didn’t continue with transfer that was almost over the line_Harvey Barnes, yes did get injured but so did a number of other Moyes signings.
Any suggestions about transferring Paqueta / Kudus / Alvarez need burying 6ft under.
Also need another l/bk to cover Emerson, injury, fatigue or just general competition.

Judas is a quality player and I think he and Bowen could well rotate between the wing and 10 role. Judas has already stated he prefers the 10 position

    • Hammeroo says:

Steveo, Kudus is no Judas! I don’t think your error is a typo because you said it twice. Shame on you!

  • Matt says:

Absolute baller and under an attacking manager instead of with the handbrake on, Kudus could be in for an epic season ahead.

Kudus can be a very special player this coming season…… I like his positivity and so it seems does Julen, fortunately.
