Independent supporters’ groups continue to campaign

Two independent West Ham supporters group continue to campaign for independent access to the club despite a recent study which suggested West Ham have the third-best fan engagement in the Premier League.

The West Ham United Independent Supporters Association (WHUISA) who once boasted of a paid membership of 5,000 asked candidates for members of parliament to agree to a pledge for West Ham to have meaningful dialogue with supporters. Twenty-one MP candidates signed the pledge before the general election last week.

The chair of WHUISA Sue Watson met with West Ham’s Supporter Liason Officer (SLO) Jake Health before kick-off the Hammers game against Arsenal.  Club insiders played down the meeting describing it as a ten minute one to one chat over coffee in which the club insisted they repeated that WHUISA must engage through the West Ham Official Supporters Board (OSB) which they are welcome to make an application to join.

Another independent supporters group, Hammers United have also continued to campaign for separate access, their campaign has seen them write letters to the Premier League, UEFA, the Minister for Sport as well as local MP’s.  Their facebook page has close to 5,900 supporters which they regard as members of their group.

Hammers United themselves will meet with Jake Heath on Monday in an informal chat similar to WHUISA and it is likely they will also be told that they must engage though the West Ham Official Supporters’ Board if they want meaningful dialogue with the club.

  1. Ask Graham Howlett, Geo or Gonnzo, Nik Tucker or Neil Taylor if they think WHUFC engage with their fans…the only 2 replies to your previous article was 100% agreed that the club don’t engage.
    Your article sounds so bitter…

    • WE are aware of the feeling of those you name Rambler. No bitterness here at all. Your comment may not be entirely free of it however. Merry Christmas.

      • Snidey comments about membership…claims that West Ham will hold a meeting to tell HU and Whuisa that they won’t have any meetings? Why did the club call them in then?
Sean’s mention of a whuisa and HU agenda? What is the C&H agenda in the article then? A fan engagement index that we all only saw yesterday and one that no one believes and you expect the groups to just say ok, we’ll shut up?
Sean digging out supporter groups who are just trying to get the club to engage with fans…like the other 89 football clubs that do so (Hull City being the other that doesn’t and we know all about their owners too)
The fan engagement index is fake news, but Sean is using it as a stick to beat the isa’s with.

I know who’s bitter Hugh and it’s from your side. Merry Christmas to you too.

        • Well I understand I am responding on behalf of Sean and am not a mind reader. That said, I fail to see a single snidey comment. Only a straight report which is what we insist on over here Rambler. Looks to me as though he mentioned membership figures. How does that become snidey. Agenda simply means a programme unless you want to put another spin on it. I have personally stopped using it on fans pages as they tend to use it as having some sort of sinister connotation sadly.

          agenda definition

          noun (note not verb, note)
          1.
a list of items to be discussed at a formal meeting.
“the question of nuclear weapons had been removed from the agenda”
          2.
          NORTH AMERICAN
          an appointment diary.

Thus, we have no ‘agenda’ other than to report what’s going on from wherever we find it. You clearly don’t know Sean or his mentality – having met a multitude of people over my life he may be the least complaining individual I have ever known. No bitterness and thanks for the greetings.

          • Dig #1 “Two independent West Ham supporters group continue to campaign for independent access to the club despite a recent study which suggested West Ham have the third-best fan engagement in the Premier League.”

A recent study that no one believes or cares about. Why would HU and Whuisa not carry on campaig for independent access when this thing was only heard about yesterday and is a load of old bull anyway?

            Dig #2 Dear @WHU_ISA
            and @HammersUnited2
Will you sharing the Fan Engagement Index with your members from @faninsightscoukor does that not meet with your agenda? The isa’s agenda is clear…they want the club to speak to and recognise isa’s as 89 other clubs do rather than a non democratic self appointed load of puppets.

Dig #3 Their facebook page has close to 5,900 supporters which they regard as members of their group.

Dig #4 The West Ham United Independent Supporters Association (WHUISA) who once boasted of a paid membership of 5,000

I didn’t expect anything less than you defending Sean….he should be man enough to defend himself though although this is not defensible.

He’s dug out and been snidey to Whuisa and HU and he’s being called out for it. Back it up Sean or don’t say anything.

Thanks for pointing out the meaning of “agenda”
Perhaps Sean shouldn’t use that word in his inflammatory tweet?

            • Point One a fact not a dig
Point 2: Unfortunate terminology as explained previously but a reasonable and as yet unanswered point
Point 3 Is that not the case?
              Point 4: Ditto above
Of course I defend him – I see nothing wrong in his assessment other than that mentioned. Glad u understand the word agenda now. I’ll explain it to Sean when I have the chance given fans such as yourself appear to use it in a sense other than the dictionary definition always assuming these organisations you defend rather vehemently don’t have such things at their meetings.

  2. Was this article about engagement with supporters gauged via one of your surveys? I know the club listened to standing issues and distance from pitch (for some supporters) but there are issues where the club don’t seem to give a monkeys..like away fans blatantly in shirts and/or celebrating in our parts of the ground with no action being taken…happens pretty much every home game..proper investment in players whilst not selling some of our major assets to compensate this lets hold a biased survey on those issues

  3. You’re worse than Laura Kuenssberg with her “sources” and your “Club insiders”. If they have spoken to you then name them – it seems to me that the Club are now realising how much in the wrong they are and not prepared to stand up and be quoted!

    • I think the same criticism can be aimed at all the other people who claim to have sources but refuse to name their contacts for the usual ethical reasons which you clearly either don’t understand, respect or probably both
      .

  4. Most supporters are fed up with these so called supporters group representing the fans.
They represent themselves for their own ego and not 99 percent of the supporters.
Just watch the football and support your team.
