Danny Ings and Maxwel Cornet could be crucial to West Ham’s efforts to recruit another forward during this transfer window.
The Hammers are still linked with Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Samu Omorodion, whose transfer to Chelsea recently fell through due to a “lack of respect.”
However, West Ham will not sign another attacker unless they can offload high-earning players like Ings and possibly Cornet. A top West Ham source, who did not disclose specific transfer targets, indicated that selling Ings is “easier said than done.”
Ings had been offered an escape route to his former club Southampton, with West Ham reportedly willing to subsidise a large portion of his wages. However, the striker declined the opportunity to join Flynn Downes on the South Coast.
What is clear is that there remains a desire at West Ham to complete a squad overhaul with another forward and a midfielder. The top Hammers insider is adamant that the club have ‘overspent’ but if buyers for our unwanted players can be found, more deals are likely to happen.
What was Moyes thinking when he brought Ings to he club. What an absolute waste of space he is.
And a complete waste of money.
Probably the same thing as when he brought Kalvin Philips here as well.
And god knows what happened regarding Hughill
If anyone knows please enlighten me
Plenty saying that Moyes didn’t bring Ings in, and that’s why he refused to use him. Look higher up.
Maybe so…..but he is still not good enough to play and its time he realized and walked.
Would you walk away from a job that paid you way too much? It’s the fault of whoever authorised the deal, not the player.
I’d love us to be able to bring in a good young striker and sell Ings and Antonio. But they are under contract and don’t have to leave.
yes if the club is willing to sub a percentage of his wsges, maybe he got too comfortable on the sofa
how do you know how good or bad he is. you haven’t seen him play
yeah, if I didn’t know better, ay?
Fingers crossed that we can offload those two players, because we need a pacy forward to complement what we have got.
There’s a good young fwd at Villa…. oh hold on
.
Weren’t we told categorically last week that we have zero interest in Omorodion?
As for Duran, that ship looks like it’s sailed. Plus IF the ‘story’ on here the other day is true that we’ve overspent already in this window, where are we raising £40m from now? Ain’t happening
We’ve got the money. Transfers are paid over a number of years anyway we’ve spent about £70m net which isn’t much nowadays . People are forgetting we had a negative net spend last summer.. it only goes to show how badly Sullivan is out of his depth in modern day football. Ego before club every single time.
Really? Because if you look at past ‘stories’ here, we were told categorically that we’ve overspent in this window already. And the only way we can bring any other players in, is to sell first.
Dear Mr Ings . When us lesser mortals take a new Job probably for about £250 a week and we do not perform we are sacked without any handout to leave. Also we do not have vast sums of money in the bank to fall back on. Stop bleeding our club and do the decent thing for supporters. You could get regular first team football in the championship. Staying at WHUFC is pure greed on your part and detrimental to both club and supporters. Do the decent thing Mr Ings and move on. No premiership club wants you.
Well said Barry
His argument would be that he’s not getting the chance to perform. Didn’t under Moyes either.
I hope we can sell him (not that he’s worth much now), but I don’t blame him for wanting to stay either. Yes you would hope he’d want to move and play regularly. Didn’t Southampton want him back? (Last I looked they are a Premier League club).
also whoever keeps getting the old players to sign 1 year extensions doesn’t help as we need to get shot of Coufal Cornet Cresswell Antonio & Flapianski then JWP Soucek & Ings
Apart from being the wrong age not sure what Fabianski has done wrong (or to have the outdated – by several years – ‘Flapianski’ used against him.
Danny Ings hasn’t had a decent run in the team. How can people say he’s useless, when he only gets 15 or 20 minutes every 3 or 4 games. If he had played 10 games in a row & not scored, people would have a point.
He was great for Saints, but doesn’t fit the current manager’s system. Plus he can’t get any playing time at West Ham, has always been injury prone, and has lost a yard of pace. And he’s become used to the ridiculous wages West Ham tempted him with in the first place. Other than that, I’d have him back like a shot. 😒
It is a bit weird the whole footballer salary system. You still get full pay but don’t actually go to work. There must be some sort of system where you get paid based on minutes played, injuries not included
If you mean Ings here, he goes to work every day, training. He’s available to play in games, did play part of the game at the weekend.
The club messed up here, not the player. If they want him gone then they’ll have to find a solution.
The Ings issue is borne of a Sullivan panic but, that Moyes signed off on. It was the ‘Chairman’s gift’ to the club….and it’s one that just keeps on giving!
I don’t blame the player. He signed a contract in good faith….why should he be forced to walk away from it?
And to those saying about paying transfers over many years….this is true, but that’s just building up problems…means not having funds in future windows as you’re still paying for this window.
Like many clubs, we have players we’d rather not have now…but this is normal. The biggest error was being penny wise, pound foolish over the Duran deal.
Ings, Cornet, Zouma…these guys as long as they’re in training on time, working hard every day….they’re earning their money. They don’t pick the team and they signed up without holding a gun to anyone’s heads. If they’ve not worked out, as some of this season’s signings likely won’t, the players themselves aren’t to blame provided they behave professionally. The fault lies elsewhere, and you can’t pawn your future for a quick sugar hit now.
Plus, we have to give it time. The manager has to keep old players onside, get new players to integrate not just to the team but the squad as a whole and not have divisions within. It’s a process
Let’s not forget Arteta lost his first 3 games in charge and they were calling for his head at Arsenal.
Totally agreed.
Well said
Excellent post
We should focus on moving players on and wait until January for anyone other than a left back. In January we could do with fresh blood to give us some momentum for the second half of the season.
If we want players like Ings or Cornet gone than why have them in the match day squad at all. Even worse was that we brought Ings on.
Great business getting rid of Ings then what in comes banana
Just pay Villa the Money for the best young CF in the premiership.
Tim ‘Pearl Diver’ Steidten is the maan responsible for the wheeling and dealing. If we need players to leave it is his job to facilitate these moves. Get to work Timmy.
COYI
Ings does not care if he stays it’s not about playing he is happy sitting on the bench making big money
