Ings: “We aren’t happy with the way we played”

|
It seems that  squad members are coming out from the game in Gent determined to make it clear that
the team did not play at all well in Belgium…not that we needed telling.
That of course has been happening far too much this season and with Arsenal on the Sunday horizon it’s not great to hear.
Nor is the stuff about us being able to look forward to another and better performance at the London Stadium in the second leg. It’s meaningless until it happens but it’s not going to stop players saying it.
In fairness, I guess, Danny Ings was pretty blunt about the performance like Flynn Downes before him but it doesn’t halt the disappointment.
We got the draw and it’s to be sincerely hoped that the squad step up up on the performance in the second leg as they will need to if we are ro have a real chance of progressing.
Commenting after the game Ings said: “We’re not happy with the way we played tonight but we didn’t lose the game.
“That’s the main thing going into next week, and [now] we need to show a reaction and play a lot better in order to go through.

“They’ve got willing runners in behind and they made it difficult for us. They did control the game at times and we knew we were going to suffer at some point in the game.

“To stay in it and not lose was massive for us going into next week. We will go back to our stadium with our fans and it will be a completely different game. It’s one we need to take on the front foot and push on to go through.”
