One subject that always gives me the “ick” during every transfer window is Turkish clubs who have developed a clear and familiar transfer pattern: wait for English sides to be relegated, or for players’ contracts to expire or look for players who aren’t performing then swoop in for cut‑price deals or loan opportunities. It’s a strategy that has become almost predictable and increasingly effective.
The logic is simple. When a Premier League club drops into the Championship, wages become unsustainable, players want out, and selling clubs lose negotiating power.
Equally, with large squads, many Premier League teams are happy to loan out players and part fund their wages.
Turkish sides, especially the big three, Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş know this and move quickly.

Injury stricken season on loan : Edson Alvarez
Only last season West Ham loaned Edson Alvarez to Fenerbahçe, while Kyle Walker Peters was on the verge of signing for Besiktas when Southampton were relegated yet instead chose to join the Hammers.
The Super Lig market thrives on these moments. Turkish clubs know English relegation equals opportunity, cheaper fees, motivated players, and deals that suit both sides. It’s become one of the most reliable transfer pipelines in European football, and it is one that West Ham will almost certainly be drawn into this summer.
How you think we got Fernandez in the first place?
