Insider gives odds of signing Basel striker

West Ham are refusing to give up on signing Basel’s striker Albian Ajeti ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Reports wrongly suggest that the Hammers had a £4.5m bid rejected earlier this week only for fresh reports today suggesting that Slaven Bilic and West Brom have come back in with a new bid of £8m which was claimed to be accepted.

Basel remains the Champions League and faces Lask in the first leg of the third qualifying round tomorrow night at 7 pm local time with Ajeti a key figure in their hopes of progressing further should he be fit to play.

A West Ham insider speaking to Claret and Hugh this evening by e mail said that negotiations are continuing and West Brom had not sealed a deal.

There is now a 50/50 chance of landing their 22-year-old striker target before Thursday adding that the Hammers had bid a considerably lot more than the reported £4.5m figure.

The striker is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League rather than the Championship but West Ham must persuade Basel to sell their star striker in the middle of the Champions League qualifying rounds and then reach a financial agreement they will accept.

  1. Sean in your opinion why are we so short of money with millions saved in wages record tv money season tickets sold out prize money for league place and net spend of around 23 million something doesn’t add up

  2. Can’t we buy him and loan back for a month?

  3. You keep talking about yearly loss mate, just so there is absolute clarity could you please give me a break down of how despite shifting loads of **** players and saving hundreds of thousands on wages, stadium sold, season tickets sold out and record revenue made from short sales last year were still on to make a loss? Please break this down in plain English so me and the others questioning the dildo brothers year on year rise to billionaires at the clubs expense?

Much obliged, can’t wait to read it.

    Jamie

  4. Everton are free spending like the world is coming to an end, they have been for a few years now, it’s hard to understand how they can spend fortunes, they had a £55m bid rejected by Palace for Zaha, I guess we will see when the window shuts. Whatever happens am very happy with Fornals and Haller so the rest is all bonus, would be nice to get another striker and or CDM but the quality of the squad has increased plus we have, Wilshere,Lanzini and Yarmolenko who were all unavailable last season so we should be in much better shape this COYI!!!

  5. We’ve off loaded Browne and Byram and sold Oxford all three for about 3 million? That gives the money for Cardoso ??? We sold Obiang for what 8 million? So saving 8 million will balance the books??( I don’t think so!) Mr Sullivan spend the money on the Swiss striker and raise the money by slightly changing more for cup tickets??? They will sell trust me, new supporters always attend these games and will pay just for the experience (that’s assuming we get home ties?😊😊)

  6. No 32 …You forgot to mention that Everton are also about to spend multi millions of £s on building their own new ground not a rented one like ours. Makes us look very much like the poor relations

    • Yes they have had a £37m bid for Doucouré rejected, £30m for The arsenal dude rejected, loan move for Smalling, Zaha these players would all expect to be on big money, Bernard last season we know he wanted £200k a week where is all this money coming from. I have no problem with us complying with FFP but how is it that certain clubs seem immune to it ? Hopefully if they are flaunting it, they will get their comeuppance.

  7. Based on the fact only championship clubs are the other clubs interested in this guy, is he genuinely going to cut it in the prem. Not that young at 22 coming on 23. Decent record but in a shocking league

Before we all start ranting about G&S not spending the £8m, could it be they just aren’t that sure on him and does Husillos think he’s worth the money.
