I suspect I was not alone in wincing when the reports were published linking Raheem Sterling with West Ham United.
The former Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal forward seems to have got through more clubs than Rory McIlroy in his short career: At the age of 30 Sterling has represented all four clubs in the Champions League which must be something of a perfect pub quiz question if not a competition record.
But as for the idea of bringing him to West Ham – it leaves many cold. Me included.
Clearly the former England forward is way past his best and without the genuine pace he once had: A little like Freddie Ljunberg – without his speed he has little to offer. Hammers fans of a certain age will remember how the ‘Ljunberg to West Ham’ signing played out.
So it was a relief to read ‘in the know’ ExWHUemployee’s comments on fellow Hammers site thewesthamway.com this morning. Quoting a source inside the club, the report opens up on the Sterling to West Ham rumours that have been gathering traction in the media:
“..Asked about rumours of Raheem Sterling and was told “His wages are way beyond what we would pay, it’s also not a position we are looking all”.
Happy Hammers then, on that front. No Raheem Sterling coming our way, either on loan or on a permanent deal. Quite who the Irons will manage to land between now and the 1st September deadline is of course still a matter of conjecture with multiple bids in at the moment. Jacob Ramsey still appears to be a current name from multiple reports, including todays’ ‘Ex’-exposé. You still can’t rule out completely a Hammers double for Leicester duo Mads Hermansen and Bilal El Khannouss – stranger things have happened and apparently Leicester were well up for it.
Noooooooooooooooooo!
He has been moved on by most of the best clubs in the country with the best players in support . Light weight no heart and a one man band. Another nail in the coffin.
Could never see this happening. Potter isn’t even playing wingers. What this means for Summerville I don’t know. Can’t see anywhere he is a natural fit in our current formation. Unless he’s going to switch up the system for different opposition Summerville would seem to be a sub at best.
Hi Bert, I think Summerville plays more like a inside forward (right footed on the left side) as he is right footed, and plays like Bowen in that sense (left footed on the right side). So personally, I don’t see any issues with him playing in that left forward role, when we need pace rather than the brutish force of Füllkrug.
I really look forward to him coming back, as i feel he fits Potters style quite good with pace , movement and technical ability going forward.
A Leicester double plus Raphael Onyeduka could be job done and a happy Potter.
Getting 3 players on his wish list.
Goalkeeper / Defender / Mid attack.
No striker but you can’t have everything.
We did get a striker – Callum bloody Wilson! The future looks bright. 😂
For god sake forget sterling we do not want another overpriced Boa Morta of Danny Ings on our hands
If you don’t buck up and find some money from somewhere it looks like we have lost all chance on Elliott
Shame
Our club is a joke at present
Come on Potter you make the decision and get a decent youngster inSue
Give Cummings a run, can not believe he did not have chance in the pre-seasons
Bet he wished he stayed at Celtic
Another player promised play time and then stuck in the under 22’s
I should think he is fuming
In whose eyes?
I wonder if Sullivan and Gold ran Birmingham City like this during their time there. And we all know what became of Birmingmham. It’s all very worrying.
They did!! As many Birmingham fans pointed out at the time. Sullivan may be a good business man but regarding a football club he couldn’t run a bath!
