West Ham United’s victory against Brentford in the FA Cup after extra time and penalties came at a cost with in- form winger and talisman Crysencio Summerville limping through the last quarter and clearly struggling.

As our club insider stated yesterday, Summerville went for a scan on his injured calf and according to latest reports will miss games:

Indeed, our own high ranking source inside the club was relatively upbeat this morning – after Summerville’s scan:

“You never know for sure, but hopefully weeks not months”

Which means Nuno looks like having to develop his ‘Plan B’ for an attacking side without Summerville, at least for the games against Manchester City this Saturday and Aston Villa on Sunday 22nd March. Following this there is a two week  break for the Internationals – so realistically Summerville’s Premier League return could possibly be for the next game against Wolves on Friday April 10th.

Of course there is the small matter of an FA Cup quarter final on April 4th and Summerville will be desperate to be fit for that – the fact that it is against his former team Leeds United is likely to add further incentive to his recovery, if any were needed.

In the meantime, whether Nuno starts Adama Traore as a left-winger or considers Diouf as a more advanced left sided option – having Pablo back fit again alongside Bowen and Castellanos does at least give West Ham’s coach several options to plug the huge gap which the absence of the club’s most exciting in-form forward has created.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Why in gods name did nuno allow him back on to the field after the injury.

Maybe because the player knew it wasn’t serious and we’d used all six subs?

If he had played on for half an hour you may have a point but how would the manager know unless the player says it’s best to stop. I doubt it has done much more (if any) damage than the initial problem would have caused.
Whilst Summerville and Fernandez have been playing out of their skins I think we are playing well enough to not notice as much and we haven’t beaten city for years so it’s hardly 3 points down the drain if we lose to them

If it’s just the Man City game then it’s not so bad, our club has such an inferiority complex with these super rich clubs that it’s unlikely we could win anyway. Happy to be proved wrong of course
