ON THE FACE OF IT, this proposal under consideration by Galatasaray doesn’t hold water. But scratch a little deeper and possibly it has some merit for West Ham who are currently faced with the real possibility of losing one of their top stars after dropping into the Championship.
According to insidefutbol.com, the Turkish giants – with Champions League football this season, remember, are considering a cheeky loan offer for the Hammers’ Crysencio Summerville.
The initial reaction is to file this under ‘rubbish’ but reconsidering for a second, the proposal-if it comes- might just have some merit for the club.
“Galatasaray are also firm admirers of what Summerville can do, with the winger having only grown his reputation through his performances at the World Cup. Nevertheless, the Turkish giants, who have Champions League football on the agenda for next season, are wary of a big transfer fee for Summerville.”
The report suggests the benefits to West Ham:
“It would make sure Summerville did not have to play in the Championship next season, while giving him the chance to play in the Champions League.
West Ham would also retain control of the winger’s future, potentially welcoming him back next summer with a spot back in the Premier League having been won.”
But of course the report – and presumably Galatasaray – omit to consider the player’s barely concealed ambition to move back to the Premier League: Particulary his claimed stated desire to move ‘only’ to Manchester United.
So whilst a loan may have merits to the Hammers (who under Kretinsky’s control are not forced to sell anyone), Summerville, I’m sure has far greater personal ambition than to kick his heels in Turkey for a season, out of sight and mind to the movers and shakers of the Premier League.
Nice idea, but no cigar.

We will be nearly doubling our money for a winger who is light weight is quite greedy and only shows up every now and again , same with the fernadez deal we come out on top as long as we replace them properly, I feel quite content with the situation
Before he was injured in season one I remember thinking he might not be physically strong enough for the Prem. Then he had that nice spell last season which seemed to prove otherwise, but yeah, he’s still not massively consistent, isn’t one of those players really bought into the culture of the club (Bowen, Soucek types) and not irreplaceable so makes sense to cash in and move on.
Would they want an option to buy?
Could be down to £’s do whu need the cash, Kretinsky says no.
His presence next season is needed on the pitch.
£40m is not sufficient for such a loss.
If whu return to premiership £70m is much more appetising.
