Introducing the U 23s – Ben Johnson

Josh Southon continues to take a look at the Hammers U 23s who are now on a roll of 13 matches without defeat and focuses his attention on Ben Johnson

The fast emerging 19 year old has already shown himself as a seriously promising defender within the academy ranks.

Essentially a right back who can played left he has started every game in the Premier League 2 for the club so far this season and as hopes for a first team call-up.

The 19 year old was born in Waltham Forest and joined the club back in 2007.

Beyond the right and left back roles he can also play right across midfield – a very promising lad who looks certain to enjoy a good career in the game.

Many had thought that he would have will step up to the first team after Pelle used him during pre-season friendlies, starting in 5 out of the 6 matches, only missing out on the prestige pre-season match against Athletic Bilbao.

Prior to that of course he made his debut for the first team at the Etihad last season in the left back role and did really well in his 53 minutes on the pitch.

His uncle Paul Parker – late of Manchester United – and another relative, Ledley King,  whose Spurs career was sadly cut short will have taught him loads.

His contract lasts until 30th June 2022, which was recently extended on March 20th.
