Ipswich Town v West Ham | Late unexpected boost for Potter

Surprisingly, some good news providing you are not an Ipswich Town fan. in fairness, the game is pretty much a ‘dead rubber’ with Ipswich already relegated and West Ham already safe – but it has echoes of ‘Lasagne-gate’ in 2005-6 when Spurs were laid low by a food bug and lost their final game to West Ham and surrendered fourth place as a result.

How we laughed.

Revealed today by manager Kieran McKenna, Ipswich Town are struggling with fitness issues: According to Ipswichstar.co.uk, not only are injuries continuing to dog their squad:

“Aro Muric (shoulder), Conor Townsend (hamstring), Cameron Burgess (hamstring), Kalvin Phillips (Achilles), Chiedozie Ogbene (Achilles), Wes Burns (knee), Sammie Szmodics (ankle) and Jaden Philogene (knee) were all unavailable for last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Leicester… [plus] “There’s a little bit of sickness in the camp, to be honest, so we’ve had a few off and struggling with that. Hopefully we’ll be in a decent position by Sunday.”

Not wanting to wish the Ipswich squad anything other than a speedy recovery but it does seem that they are really up against it to put out a team likely to trouble West Ham: They are without a win in their last eight games at home and it does seem that the odds are moving further in West Ham’s favour with their injury and fitness issues.

No excuses then, West Ham. Nine defensive players again as last week just won’t wash and we will see through Potters’ fine words claiming he wants a win. There won’t come many less threatening fixtures in Graham Potter’s West Ham career.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

What a terrible season. Last game away to long relegated injury stricken Ipswich and we suspect a defensive formation and that we may not win.

I’ve never been so downbeat. If we don’t get this window right then I fear for next season I really do.

This result may have a negative effect on hopeful transfers.
Need to win just to show some (not very) positives for new recruits.

Expect the unexpected! Or should that be expect more of the same dross?

lol – I wouldn’t back this West Ham against the Boy’s Brigade !
I fancy Ipswich to do us.

    3-0 to Ipswich then

I enjoyed watching Julien Laurens moan about our nine defensive players last week. It seems everyone is cottoning onto Potters ultra defensive mode and most think it’s wrong. If only Potter could see that. Hopefully we play a striker and some others who like to get forward. If he plays the same team as last week I recommend a wellness check for him as he is obviously having some sort of mental breakdown.

This is really sad when we have to depend on a relegated side having injuries in order to beat them

Even in BFS first season back in the Premier league we put four past relegated Reading with a Nolan hat trick

Why cant we do similar things now?

West Ham would struggle against an U13s team.

As you have already recently discovered with matches against other “depleted teams”, West Ham rarely manage to make their advantage count. So, what will be different against Ipswich ? Actually, despite our team’s history against weakened teams, I do expect them to beat Ipswich; but I am taking absolutely nothing for granted !

  • Steve says:

    Defeat then
