Iron may face long wait to break through

Alphonse Areola may have to wait up to another 18 months to become the Hammers permanent Number one goalkeeper.

Currently on duty for France in Qatar, he was excluded from the team that beat Australia 4-1  on Tuesday,

And he may continue to face a long wait to take over from Lukas Fabianski who remains very much first choice at the London Stadium.

Areola has signed a contract which keeps him with us until 2027 and has a two-year option on top of that.

But the former Polish international – whilst in the last year of his current contract – has another year’s contract attached to it.

Should the club – as is likely- offer him a new deal that will take the stopper past his 39th birthday.

Meanwhile the Hammers are hoping for offers which would see very much surplus to requirements Darren Randolph leave the club this January ahead of his contract ending in June.
