Iron may get a surprise contract offer

|

O'BrienExclusive

Joey O’Brien has emerged as a more likely candidate to earn a new permanent contract in the summer than Alex Song.

Despite getting little first team action, the Irish defender is seen as a decent squad option at wages of around £15k – £20k than Song at around £50,000.

O’Brien was with the squad that the trip north to Old Trafford on Sunday but thus far this season has only been involved in the Cup games against Liverpool in the FA Cup and the early Europa League qualifying action.

However, ClaretandHugh has learned that the 30 year old could well find himself offered a new deal in June at around the same money as he is on currently.

We were told: “Joey is still at a decent age and although he’s had his share of injuries he is now recovered and if he can remain fit a deal is a better than evens possibility.

“We are still carefully monitoring Alex Song but he is of course an awful lot more expensive and we need to be certain on that one.”

Also, glad to see several others recognising BOB as having done well, and not trashing him…

I am OK with JOB extension. Like several others, I think the Bilic team has improved him. He was very good in his brief appearances later in this season. Good to have someone who won’t keep causing grief because he is not being played and very good shrewd business as 2nd/3rd place right back, as far as I am concerned.

Hehe I saw this post earlier but resisted making the first comment, imho though JoB is reliable when he is fit, every team needs some utility players that are happy to fit in wherever and whenever needed, if they are team players and not whiners like some teams have and are not on (in relative terms) big wages, also class as homegrown then I wouldn’t see the problem with this one.

Just finished telling another Hammer fan not to feel down and hit this post,
For Fukc sake why would we sign a second class injury prone person
We have Byram,Tomkins,Chambers,Oxford,Antonio, and probably about 10 ball boys that are better then him,
He is the last remaining part of the Hippo puzzle that needs discarding,
    Yep over the moon
Tone now I feel totally depressed
Would kick my dog but I love my Dog and he would be a better right back

Sorry but why is he & Song being compared in this article. They don’t play in the same position so it isn’t a shoot out between them.
JOB has been an OK servant to us,never let us down to be fair but ain’t it time to move on from the JOBs.

Just can’t see why they would resign JOB as cover at RB when we have Tomkins Antonio and now Harvard Nordtvelt who can all play there.
