Time and again I read that a transfer budget of £25 million – which is about what the Hammers will offer their new boss – is never going to be enough to attract a top managerial name to the club.
I beg to differ!
Obviously double that amount would be great but the idea that we aren’t offering enough to attract a decent managerial target is false.
Looking back on last summer it was only the top handful of clubs who spent more than £50 million with the Hammers coming out ninth in the spending League forking out around £26 million.
Possibly the most inspired managerial signing last season was Ronald Koeman at Southampton who spent just £7 million more than us but the likes of Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw had been sold to fund their £33 million outlay.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley – who escaped relegation on the last day of the season against us – got rid of £44 million.
So the idea that managers will be turned off by what many appear to think is a meagre budget is clearly wrong and already it has become clear that Rafa Benitez would have been happy with it had Real Madrid not come in.
On top of the transfer kitty available our new boss will be able to raid the loan market. Let’s not be too downbeat as the squad is pretty respectable and £25m will fund some decent additions.
We have taken our club ‘spend’ figures from http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/201415-premier-league-transfers-all-permanent-signings-4035681#.VWhxVM9Viko
So we’ve got a transfer budget of £25 million to move into a 56,000 stadium being a established Premiership club whereas Bournemouth, whose ground holds 12,500 and never been so high in their history have got a bigger budget?
Hernandez is 12 million off Man U,you could get Oscar for 10 million but they would want Valencia,
But if you can get both of them and loose Valencia and still have 20 million left get 5 million more for Jarvis and Nolan, and 10 Million for Carroll you could still pick up 4 more good players plus the freebies
Sullivan said we would buy two world class players this summer a month or two ago.How the feck are you going to buy two like that & more we need on bleedin 25m.Anyway the amount aint set in stone im sure.Maybe if we didnt have to pay 130k a week to Carroll & Nolan we might have more to play with.
25 million plus about 6 million for the one we sell ,
But at the moment there are some good freebies out there,it the wages as well that mater,
What top boss is going to want to work with a budget of 25m,its a poxy amount. If you are going to show intent get a big name in & back him in the transfer market.Dont try & by a load of rodneys, triggers & uncle alberts on the cheap. You either want to make the step up or you dont.No half measures.
Pathetic amount,25m,wouldnt even buy Messis left b*llock!!!
Agree totally.
Ahah… you’re right rads, maybe Nolan is not so useless… we could rebuild the team thanks to him… 🙂
If we spent 26m last year then surely as this ‘super power’ we are being stated as becoming by some then this amount is a minimum amount. It will be more i believe. If it is only 25m then i will be a little disappointed. We need some serious work on the midfield & forward line to get the quality raised in these departments. For 26m you aint going to get many top draw players.Guess Valencia & Creswell will suddenly be flogged to make up the shortfall.Though i guess the 20m for Nolan will boost the kitty 😀
You’re forgetting the £3.72 for JO’B,every little helps
True enough Hugh,it’s a new tactical brain with fresh ideas we’re after and I think most of the preferred names fit that bill never having spent vast amounts. If it was all about spending we’d know 1st to 20th on transfer deadline day.
