Reece Oxford has been warned against big-headedness and arrogance by manager Slaven Bilic.
The boss -speaking to The Mail – has made it clear he won’t tolerate such developments and that that he would be forced to take action if that were to become the case.
The 16 year old is showing no such signs despite a torrent of positive publicity since making his debut at Arsenal last Sunday.
Already he has lived up to all the hype that he is set to go all the way to the top in the game but the manager understands that there are side issues that can go with that.
As a result he has made it clear that the youngster needs to be cautious and has declared and that were he to notice any problems then there could be consequences he’d have to face.
He said: ‘If he goes a little bit down or big-headed then you have to react, of course.
‘I think that in every situation where suddenly something happens it changes the daily routine of the player.
‘It doesn’t matter if he’s 20 or 30. It can happen to any person and we just have to be aware to monitor that sort of situation.’
Oxford is set to make his League debut against Leicster City this afternoon with the only change likely to be Carl Jenkinson coming in at right back for James Tomkins.
I think it was ment to say home debut,
This lad has shown how mature he is already by standing by this club and turning down top 4 sides so he could grow and play at this club,
I am sure if we don’t grow as a club he will move on if we can not offer him European football,
He will prove that he never needed this warning but at least are new leader is still trying to help the lad,
Surely Oxford made his PL debut last week?
Interesting to see how this develops and from, the way Slav speaks, blossoms not only for Reece but all the rest of the promising youngsters at the club.
Team selection today as for the rest of the season will be fascinating, what a novel idea different lineups and tactics. Shame our much loved (according to him) former manager wasn’t aware such things could be done.
