Irons defender gets “assurances”

pottsDan Potts is likely to get a bigger chance than ever before to stake his claim as a solution to the troublesome West Ham left back position over the coming campaign.

The 20 year old – after taking his time to agree a new one year deal with the club – is likely to have more chances of proving his capabilities this term than previously.

There was a widespread view that the player would move as his contract ran out on but ClaretandHugh understands he has received assurances that he is set to get more opportunities.

It’s relatively unusual for a player to agree just a 12 months deal at a young age and reflects the club’s ‘anxieties’ over the left back spot.

A Hammers source explained to us: “Dan has only made five team appearances and one or two were surprised when he agreed to stay on for at least another year.

“There’s a big opportunity to impress in that position and I understand Dan has received some assurances he’ll be given a crack of the whip.

“It’s a big season for him and could be one that gives him a much-needed breakthrough – he needs a run of games and this may well be his moment.”

  1. I don’t accept the opinions of a few on a certain website who claim there are no players good enough coming through the Academy, many of those same people will never go to Academy games, Dan never let us down, I don’t blame his taking his time to agree a new contract, you have to know you stand a chance, I hope he gets that chance and I wish him every success.
