West Ham United finds themselves in the midst of a media storm surrounding their ongoing search for a potential replacement for manager David Moyes. Every step of the process seems to be getting dissected in the press and on social media.
The club has reportedly spoken with numerous managers, with names like Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui being mentioned. West Ham is believed to have a shortlist of twelve candidates compiled by technical director Tim Steidten, which strengthens the possibility of Moyes’ departure.
Then The Daily Mail threw a curveball into the mix, alleging that Steidten has been barred from the first-team dressing room due to the uncertain situation with Moyes. The report suggests that with Moyes‘ contract expiring this season and Steidten actively seeking replacements, it’s deemed inappropriate for Steidten to be around the players and staff.
West Ham has opted not to address these claims directly. A club spokesperson simply stated it’s an internal matter and declined to comment further.
While there’s no official confirmation, some logical reasoning can be applied. It’s understandable that Moyes might not want to be in constant contact with the person tasked with potentially replacing him. Similarly, Steidten might find it awkward to be around Moyes given their previous pre-game interactions.
From the club’s standpoint, allowing Moyes to potentially influence Steidten’s decision wouldn’t be ideal. They need Steidten to make an objective choice regarding the manager’s position.
Many West Ham fans feel the situation could have been handled better. However, the club argues that waiting until the end of the season to start looking for replacements would have been negligent. Proactive measures are necessary due to the significant squad rebuild needed in the summer.
West Ham seems stuck between a rock and a hard place. Their proactive approach has led to media leaks, and their current silence may cause further frustration.
With fans seeking closure, West Ham might need to reconsider the timing of their decision on Moyes. An announcement before the Luton match on May 11th would give supporters a chance to properly send off Moyes (if he’s leaving) and would simplify Steidten’s task by allowing him to focus on finding a replacement.
Or, everyone can just calm down and get some perspective.
We all want a new manager to come in, with sincere thanks to Moyes for his service. We all want to see dead wood replaced with exciting new signings. As is typical in our society, we all want it yesterday, because we’ve lost the inability to be calm and patient.
The club is working on it and the old saying is still true; good things come to those who wait.
“The club is working on it and the old saying is still true; good things come to those who wait.”
Sorry, Buddy, does this include waiting for good things to happen at the end of the transfer window? It hasn’t worked out too well for us lately! Don’t confuse ‘calm and patient’ with dithering (of which the Davids in our club are particularly good at).
β We all want a new manager to come inβ
A wild assumption and simply not true. Too many people are swayed by the vociferous few on the various social media platforms and get confused between the real and the virtual world.
I am a s/t holder and I would prefer Moyes to stay and be given proper support in the upcoming transfer window, a view echoed by the majority of the other s/t holders in my vicinity in the Billy Bonds Stand.
Moyes has class and he deserves a good send off v Luton. As for Sullivan the day he and his side kick Brady leave West Ham I will have a beer and I am tea total.
This has been handled so badly by the board it beggars belief. Barring a set of miraculous results West Hams season is over with the team sitting comfortably mid table. If David Moyes is going to be replaced there is zero value in continuing for the rest of the season as it only causes continuing unrest. Moyes should be put on gardening leave and someone like Mark Noble put in charge until the end of the season (possibly with the help of one of the existing coaching team or the U21 coach). Everybody could then move on with their lives with some form of optimism. The current situation is depressing and bad for the club.
Gardening leave sounds good to me. I wonder if Moyes likes to potter about in the garden?
I wonder if you did a poll now on who would the fans would like to see leave David Moyes or David Sullivan (I know he owns the club) I think Sullivan wins this one
But, as Moyes said, the ball is in his court then it’s Moyes who is dithering, there could be a contract on the table, if he gives up input on transfers, and he is taking his time to decide, West Ham are obviously going to explore other options but can’t do anything till he decides, it could be that which is holding things up
again its the board that is stuffing around do we want the west ham of old full of great football not the two pass and smash it up field as we do today
sully just leave the club sell your shares Harry could be interested.
as for moyes how can you win a game with ten defenders and one part time striker this is the boards and moyes fault they just haven’t got a clue
